I need some advice for senior girls independent schools in the Croydon / Caterham /Purley area .
We are based in Purley so don’t want to travel
More than 30 mins each way .

We have considered
Croydon High Girls : results not too impressive
Old Palace : don’t like location
Caterham : mixed views on this?
Reigate grammar : too far ?
Woldingham : too far ?

Can anyone shed any further advice on the above schools or suggest any others ?

TIA !!!

Reigate and Caterham are mixed. Woldingham is good and easy to get to by train. There is a bus that picks up from Woldingham station. Girls' grammar = Wallington Girls. Nonsuch a bit far.

Hamsternauts · 15/03/2019 16:55

I was thinking Purley was on the same line as Woldingham, but she'd need to change at Whyteleafe for Upper Warlingham station (6 min walk)

LIZS · 15/03/2019 17:43

Is there a bus to Woldngham? Does she have a preference for sport ie. Hockey vs. lacrosse? Other interests?

Minibus goes from Purley station to Woldingham. A minibus also collects from Woldingham station, if a girl arrives on the regular trains.

It is super easy from Purley to Woldingham on the school minibus, from/ to Purley station. My DD is in Y10 if you have any questions about it. We are very happy with it.

She is only 9 so just planning ahead . Plays hockey a bit but not lacrosse .
We will have a look at woldingham website and an open day .
Thank you all !

Which results at CHS are you looking at? Did you get them from the school? They were pretty good last year.

jasmine372 · 18/03/2019 12:16

The A levels . A-A stars . Only 22 percent ?!
Compared to other schools which seem to have 80 plus at the same grade .

Can anyone give any feedback on Caterham School and Reigate Grammat School ? We would consider co Ed as well

Where are you looking at results? Remember igcses are graded differently and often do not feature in league tables. Caterham would be more easily accessible than RGS, by train or bus. Caterham campus more attractive and has sports fields onsite. RGS has a more local atmosphere, Caterham a bit more cosmopolitan and dynamic. Both have undergone changes of head in recent years but you really need to visit both to determine which feels more right for your dd.

Seeline · 18/03/2019 12:47

CHS has also had a recent change in Head and feels as though it is driving forward. It is certainly increasing in size.
It's probably worth a visit.

I thought Old Palace was in the old Croham Hurst site, which is in a nice part of Croydon.

I'm surprised at the CHS A level results. DD just went to a comprehensive school where last year's A levels resulted in 45% A/A*. Are you sure this is correct?

Seeline · 18/03/2019 13:40

Old Palace Junior school is at Croham Hurst. The senior school is next to Croydon Minster in the Old Town.

TapasForTwo · 18/03/2019 16:36

Ah OK. Since when did Croydon Parish Church become a minster? (I grew up in Croydon, but haven't lived there for a long time). When I lived in Croydon CHS and Old Palace were both very highly regarded.

jasmine372 · 18/03/2019 21:29

I got the results from the CHS website itself . Examination results . I was quite surprised as well by the 22 percent .
LIZS : thanks for the link . Confirms the results on the examination results page . Yes A-B is 87% but I was comparing A-A* .
I know a direct comparison isn’t always the best way and will be visiting but on paper it’s the only way ....
