How soon after national offer day was your child offered a waiting list place?

We’re on a number of south east London state secondary waiting lists, typically in the mid teens for our band. The positions haven’t changed in the two weeks since offer day.
Today is the acceptance deadline for state school places, and I was wondering how soon after this date waiting list places have typically been offered in previous years? I know offers can be made well into the year after secondary transfer - but how soon do they start to be made?

I can't imagine a worse council that Lambeth. I would have thought we had Lewisham beat.

Morecan · 21/03/2019 19:01

@Notenoughsleepmumofthree I’m sure it’s a close-run thing in terms of that particular title!
Southwark are very responsive, on the other hand, but the lists still don’t seem to be moving more than one place up or down... I have to remind myself that it’s only 3 weeks since offer day, which is apparently nothing in the grand scheme of school waiting lists!

Do you mind me asking what school you're hoping for?

Morecan · 21/03/2019 20:33

Have messaged you : )

So, to add my own answer, it took a month for my daughter to be offered a place from the waiting list. It’s not her first choice, but is a much better fit than the school offered on 1 March - a good outcome. Thank you to everyone who read and commented, and good luck to those in a similar situation.

Congratulations Morecan really glad it's worked out OK for you!

Morecan · 01/04/2019 04:09

Thank you @Zinnia - hope you get good news if you’re waiting! I get the impression that things are moving slowly this year - one very efficient school kept responding that they should have more info the following week, and never did, so they seemed surprised too. But they do move eventually!

Would you mind me asking how you found out you were offered a place? Was it by email or letter from the school or LA? Having a very anxious wait ourselves. Number 8 on the list the last time I checked.

GREAT news @Morecan - did they contact you or did you need to call them?
I’m still trying to get through to the ‘sham to find out where we are. Will report back when I hear 🤞🏻

Morecan · 02/04/2019 09:50

Hello @JoannaDW and @SarfE4sticated - Lambeth (my LA) sent me a letter. I don’t think the schools have taken control of their own lists yet, tho I may be wrong for some - it seems to vary so much. Can’t see that there’s any harm in contacting anyone relevant for updates tho - they appear to expect it of us.
Good luck both of you, and please do post updates!

Thank u. I’m in the Norwood end of Croydon but on waiting list for a Lambeth school. It has been such an emotionally draining month. So glad it worked out for you. Will keep u updated.x

Hoping the best for everyone!!

Our first choice school had PAN of 380 but no movement yet. Is this normal. We are not in London. We're 6th and 7th place on wait list.

JoannaDW · 02/04/2019 18:17

I contacted our second choice school in Southwark today to ask if there was an update on the list position. The administrator emailed me back saying there had been technical issues with the LA and consequently there had been no movement on their waiting list since offer day. If it can happen there, the chances are it’s happening in other areas. It’s pure agony isn’t it! Hope it all moves soon 🤞

BeautyWasTheBeast · 03/04/2019 07:39

We're 2nd on the waiting lists for our 2 top schools... It is pure agony waiting and not knowing if or when DC will get a place.
Trying not to think about it but failing miserably lol.

JoannaDW · 04/04/2019 09:45

I know exactly how you feel. Everyday I wake up thinking “is this the day the nightmare’s going to end?”, and go to bed very disappointed. Hopefully it all resolves soon.🤞

SarfE4sticated · 04/04/2019 18:41

No. 1 school won’t know until first week back after Easter- don’t have all forms back yet apparently.

DonDons39 · 08/04/2019 20:18

Our LA had a deadline date of 22nd March to accept offers. On 4th April we were given a place at our 6th choice school after submitting a late application once we realised my dd didn't have a school place.

We have appeals in for our first 2 choices and will wait to see if we can win those or are offered a place in the meantime.

I'm just relieved my dd was given a place at all, not having a place anywhere was terrifying.

Morecan · 14/04/2019 06:55

@Dondons39, well done on securing a place for your dd. I hope all works out well.

Thank you. DD has now said she'd rather go to our offered school than our original 2nd place choice, so I think we're gonna remove our options for there. However, she would still rather go to our 1st place choice than her offered, so we're still gonna go ahead with that appeal.

I don't think we will win our appeal now as a large chunk of our reason was that she was without any school place (as of National Offer day), and we were hoping that the Fair Access Protocol would kick in. We're resigned to the fact that DD will now be going to her offered school. She's actually happy about that now so I'm a lot less stressed about the actual appeal.

Best of luck to everyone else waiting on their places.

BeautyWasTheBeast · 15/04/2019 18:25

We found out at the weekend that my Ds has got a place at his first choice. So happy !!
