Secondary school appeal

The secondary school I’m appealing have sent me their admissions criteria info which states that they will have an intake of 196 year 7, of which 84 will be from catchment area 1 and 84 will be from area 2 (inclusive of looked after etc).
So am I reading correctly that there are then 28 places not accounted for? How shall I word this in my appeal?
The headteacher did point out that there would be an extra 28 places this year but I m confused as surely they would have been allocated in the original process.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thank-you

Yes - 84 + 84 = 168! So another 28 allocated somewhere, you need to ask where they have come from...

I suspect this is a case of the admissions criteria being the same for years (84+84), then them being asked/deciding to take another form this year and not updating the admissions document (or sending you an old one)

When we went to the open evening, the head teacher did announce that this time there will be and extra 28 places compared to previous years.
The enclosed admission appeals guide for parents is clearly dated March 2019 but does only state 168 places, the covering letter states 196.
I am still waiting for the school to respond to my previous email with regards to how many year 7 classes there will be ....this is frustrating.

I suspect that this might be a typo and that 196 have been allocated, whoever did the letter used last years as the template and did not change one of the 84 to 112
You should go back to the school and ask for clarity as to where the extra 28 pupils have been allocated.

Thank you admission, I thought that might be the case. I will contact the school.
