Unmotivated DS at school Help needed

So my DS is 13 and in year 8 at secondary school. He is fairly bright, popular and easy going, however his behaviour at school and lack of effort in his work is letting him down. He gets written warnings on a weekly basis (if they get 8 in a week they get detention after school), he's had on average a detention every two weeks since starting the new term in September. I'm meeting with his teacher next Monday to discuss his lack of effort and attitude. I'm at a loss as to what to do with him, I do punish him if his behaviour is poor at school, typically removing gmhis PS4 for a week. I'm so worried school think we're bad parents.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What's the reason for the written warnings? Does he dick about? Is he late? Does he give the teachers cheek?

Other questions are: is he happy? Is he good at some things and put effort into those? Is he being bullied?

It's a rough age tbh-who'd be 13 in this day at and age, eh? Flowers
