Second Allocation success?!

My son got allocated to a school that wasn't on any of my choices, and is 5 miles away. I want to apply for second Allocation. Do I list my school preferences depending on the waiting list place in Continuing Interest? Do schools normally add extra places for second and third allocations?

My first choice was Parmiter's School as its close to me, but as its an outstanding school, getting a place is difficult.

Looking for any advice as to what to do, I was counting on being allocated to Parmiter's. What other schools can be recommended for applying? And what criteria do the council base their decisions upon?

Thanks

Schools do not routinely add places at this stage but the LA may pressure some schools to do so if there is a shortage of places. The criteria remain the same as for the original admissions round so whether or not you get a place at a school depends on the school's admission criteria. Always list schools in your genuine order of preference. Doing something else can lead to you missing out on a place at the school you really want.

Were you applying to Partmiters in distance, or did your DC sit the consortium test? We're your other preferences SW Herts schools?

You can go in the waiting list for your other preferred schools, but the waiting lists will move on the same terms as the original places were allocated. So, if someone declines a place on distance, then the person at the top of the distance waiting list will be offered a place. Same for academic places.

You can ask where you are on the waiting lists for each school.

Oh, and you can ask to go in waiting lists for schools you didn't previously apply for. You should look at your next nearest.

Thank you both. I applied for Distance allocation for Parmiter's, although my son took the consortium test but haven't applied through it. My 2nd, 3rd, 4tg options that were rejected were SW Hertz schools as well. I will know by tomorrow his position on the waiting list, and will apply accordingly.
