Have a fairly sensitive 14 yr old and the class is going to watch a portion of the film The Pianist by Roman Polanski. Some of the scenes are based on contempory photos and film made by the Nazis as a record of their extermination policy (quoting here from the school's letter seeking permission)
Has anyone seen it and if so, what do you reckon about the potential for upset? Thanks

My 14 year old daughter has also seen this with her class, or at least a very small part of it. She is also very sensitive and has refused to watch some films in lessons (or asked us to refuse permission!), but she says the portions used for this were thought-provoking but not too distressing or harrowing.

Crikey it's a depressing film. Brilliant but not easy watching, on a par with Schindlers List.
Not harrowing, as I remember, because of any images of the holocaust but because it's just such a hard going subject matter. Sorry, I don't remember a huge amount of detail but remember coming out of the pictures feeling exhausted and cold (cathartic effect of the last part of the film). I'd recommend watching it though.

It's a brilliant film.

They should watch stuff like this, it's thought provoking.

They get far too much Hollyoaks type dross thrown at them, they should watch this type of thing instead.

And I don't remember anything particularly harrowing, but then I'm not v. sensitive
