Secondary schools waiting list - moving after offer day

We are thinking of moving house to get closer to our 1st choice school as we are very unlikely to get a place where we currently live. We had been planning to do this last year before the 12 December deadline for changing address but didn't for various reasons. If we move in the next few months, what do we do? I assume we notify the school of our change of address and are then placed on the waiting list according to our new address? Will they move us up the waiting list as our new house will be a lot closer than our existing house? How does it work?

You notify the LA you have moved with proof, our area took proof as exchange of contracts and then you go up the list if distance is a criteria.

You will, by moving closer, be potentially higher up the admission criteria order. However if the school is popular then it will have been filled by the initial admission places and so you could still be well down the waiting list after you move.
You would be best to ensure that you appeal for a place, using the current address, and try and put together as good a case to admit as possible. Saying you are in the process of moving closer will carry no weight in any appeal.
