So, it’s that time of year and my eldest is on with his choices......I’m from a Scottish education O Grades and S Grades, so this is all new to me really. DS is very much Maths/Science/Computing orientated, but needs to make a decision between Classical Civilisation/Design & Tech - Graphics.....and possibly Latin.
What is the consensus out there - is CC an easy option? I’ve seen other threads from quite some time ago that say it is....so is it still the case? The exam board for CC is OCR, DT is AQA and Latin is Eduqas WJEC. All of those mean nothing to me Grin but I’m hoping it will to those more in the know. He’s right at the beginning of the process, still got interim report, parents’ evening, head of year interview etc to go, but I’d just like to hear what the mumsnet opinion is so I can help him with his decision.

My DD did Graphics and hated it (and did quite badly). Ironically, due to apathy about other subjects, she ended up doing it at A level (with much more success) and has now started it as a degree. The DT Graphics GCSE is very different from the Art Graphics A level. At her school, at least, it was quite technical but NOT computer based. It might be a good option for someone with an art + science + 3D thinking brain; it wasn't for her, with a 2D art brain but not the 3D or the science. Having said that, I've no idea what the new-style GCSE is like - may have evolved considerably in the last few years.

I studied classics for GCSE in 1994 and it was fascinating :)

I still recall lots of random facts 25 years later. It's a good choice.
