I bought clear plastic pencil cases at Ryman’s back in September and they are now torn with gaping holes along the seams so useless.
I don’t mind paying more but want one that’s going to last at least a school year. It needs to be large enough to accommodate all the paraphernalia of year 7 ie about 40 pens and pencils. Thank you.

does it have to be clear? at my dd's school these makeup bags are very popular to use as pencil cases, and they are large enough to hold all the different items. the one my dd has has now lasted her 2 years. for a more unisex one (i don't know if you have a dd or ds) try here

Y7 don't need 40 pens and pencils!

W.H.Smiths does clear ones too if that is a requirement.

Otherwise, you are lucky. Our house is heaving with pencil cases that were once highly desired and are now obsolete. Smile

I know it sounds excessive but he has art several times a week, and said he likes having all his colours available for drawings in his biology book.

Thanks for the suggestions sleep. He’s a boy and they can be very conventional about colours. I like the pukka pencil case.

I actually bought DS's from Tesco. Having a google, it looks like this one (bought in store, not online hence my uncertainty) ...

He had several different pencil cases in Year 7 - got this at Christmas in Year 8, and it's still going strong into Year 9.

(Hope the link works)

My Ds has had one of these for several years now. They are pricey (although I am sure I didn't pay that much!!), but really roomy and strong.

If you want clear then your best bet is Tuff bags - these have a kind of mesh built in to the clear plastic. We have loads for pens, hair stuff etc, they are so useful and none have broken at all. They are just clear/white mesh with blue, red or black zips so totally neutral if not very exciting.

Thanks for your wonderful suggestions everyone. I really like the look of the mesh reinforced plastic one. I'm seriously thinking of getting all of them and doing a controlled study on their respective toughness! Think I'll post back in a few months to say how they did Smile.
