Welsh Lang secondary school?

Our local one is much better than the English one, but we have the possibility to send private. My husband is Welsh speaking and went to a welsh comp and wants our dc to go there too. I'm from abroad. Dh speaks to the children in Welsh

Pros or cons?

It’s a no-brainer. Send your kids to the Welsh school and you learn Welsh.

Personally rather than choosing purely on language I'd suggest visiting the school & seeing what it's like.

Our nearest Welsh medium school is very popular & gets great results, but we didn't choose it for dd for various reasons (at the time the buildings were very overcrowded, we felt they were too narrowly exam-result focused, & it had a very 'traditional' rules-for-the-sake-of-it approach).

The English medium school (actually bilingual & dd went into the Welsh medium stream) had much worse headline results, but largely because of a very very different intake.

Having said all that, there is a strong argument for keeping dc in Welsh medium education if you think they're likely to stay in Wales, just from an employability POV apart from anything else. Though if your DC are mother-tongue (well father-tongue) speakers that may be less of an issue.

All I'd say is the people I know who've been to a Welsh medium school do seem to struggle with English spelling and certain terminologies that appear in education environments (science/IT jargon that kind of thing). However I'd think that's something easily overcome.
I wish I'd have gone to our Welsh medium school.
