Haileybury School

Dear Mums, my daughter has been accepted into Haileybury School, 11+ , we will be moving to London from Dubai next September, and i wonder if anybody has any experience with this school, and also if would consider commuting from London to there every day...

My head is bouncing , plus i still need to figure out the school of my other two who will be in year 5 and 6. S.O.S....

Absolutely do not commute to Haileybury from London. Days are long and full plus there is school on Saturday morning.

I would either live nearby or consider weekly boarding if that’s something she and you are up for.

I agree, Haileybury school is definitely not commutable from London. You could however live nearby in Bishops Stortford. Daughter could attend H as a day pupil and any family members that work in London could commute from Bishops Stortford station.

I went to Haileybury 20 years ago. It's a great school but don't commute from London. At schools like that the days are long and full and there's no way you could fit in a commute.

Also, when I went it was mainly boarding, with one house for day pupils, so I imagine they'd feel a bit left out as a non boarder.

In fact, my parents lived near Bishops Stortford and I still boarded.

My two nieces attended in recent cohorts - a remarkably unexceptional school. I'd infinitely rather have my DC at a day school in London in your situation.

Haileybury has a bus service. Please have a look on its website. There should be an information about routes to London.
This is a very good school with a lot of activities, delicious food, friendly staff and huge library.
Yes, children from the year 9 must attend school 6 days a week. But lowers ( year 7 &8) study 5 days only. It is also true that boarding children in majority. Even day students who lives near prefer to stay at least on weekly boarding.

I d try to start with day school as the change from dubai to london will be dramatic... and then see if she can go for weekly board at a second stage. I have ghe day pupil bus routes, they seem ok-i ll try to move to a point where the conmuting wont be too long.

And now start hunting for schools in the same area for my other two who are still in primary .

St Joseph's in Hertingfordbury, Heath Mount Prep school and Duncombe school all good

Many thanks @quyip but aren't these all independent prep schools? It's a primary school I'm after (as in state). Thanks though for replying.
