Perse Secondary Entrace

Dear All,
My son is sitting for the perse secondary exam this January. With all the hype surrounding how hard the entrance exam is going to be especially the multiple choice english exams etc, I would like to get advice from parents who managed to get their child into Perse in recent years. Would be wonderful to get advice on exam preparation and your experience with the whole process. Most of the threads on Perse are bit outdated - so trying to see if I can get some new insights. I would just get your child to work through the specimen papers on their website and discuss where they go wrong if they do. That is what we did with our DS when he joined.

The day itself they make as easy as possible for the kids. Split them into small groups and the interview is basically a chat. DS mentioned he had taught himself to do a rubicks cube so the teacher asked him to show him and explain what he was doing.

Try to keep it all low key. I think itis far more stressful for the parents than the kids. Good luck. We love the school a d DS has thrived there.

Thanks a lot ShalomJackie. Thats helpful. Yes I think my wife and I are more stressed out. The english multiple choice is ridiculously hard to answer even for a 40 year old (with a PhD!) :). The last time I was so stressed was when I did my driving test 17 years ago :).

Wow I’m glad someone else mentioned that those English multiple choice questions are tricky for university educated 40 year olds!! I thought I was just dense.
DD takes the exam for year 9 tomorrow. Her older brother is already at Perse Upper, but DD is a very different student from him. Fingers crossed....

Son got his offer from Perse Upper today - it was hard work but well worth it.

Congratulations - my DS is there too and he loves it and we can't recommend highly enough.
