"Pupil of Half Term Award" policy?

I know schools have different policies, but just wondering how your school selects the pupil of half term award in a specific subject?

This sounds like something unique to the school!

We give effort awards two per tutor group each half term. To the children, we feel:

• are making effort
• need a boost
• haven’t been recognised recently

They don’t have to be the highest achieving. We reward that in other ways.

I hate the subject awards at the end of the year because there's easily at least 50 students per year group who could deserve one.

What my school does is they allow staff to nominate to head of department and the HODs make sure nobody gets more than 1 award.
