Hi. Just wondered if anyone has had experience with Saturday revision classes? I've looked at Excel but its hard to know if they can deliver. Also Justin Craig but it has mixed reviews. We are in London. Any ideas? Daughter needs GCSE revision in science. Any advice much appreciated.

Does the school not do them?

LizziZita · 07/12/2018 05:43

Yes, but only in maths. And not in science. Its worrying as in order to get into a reasonable school, my daughter needs to get B's in science. Humanities is strong, but not science nor maths.
Thanks for answering.

Don't know if online stuff will help, but my son's school recommended FreeScienceLessons on YouTube. Not exciting but covers everything they need to know.

Also applying the knowledge, so past papers online, their mark schemes to check you are using the correct terminology and examiner's report to see where children went wrong.

Which exam board is it? Ours is AQA.

Cannot believe the school won't put on revision classes across the board to improve pupil's grades especially with progress 8 being the new yard stick to measure with.

Because revision class is run on the goodwill of the teachers, unlikely being part of their directed time. The syllabus is supposed to be taught within lesson time and revision is self study by students.

Have a look at tassomai. It's an online revision course. My eldest did it for GCSE as is the youngest who has his exams next year. It takes about 10 mins a day and costs £30 a month for the full 3 science course

DS used this series of books to revise science this year

Plenty of revision practice questions. Gained 3 grades in bio/chem and 2 in physics between Jan/May.

Good luck!

Teachers teach it well first time and students focus in class and do their own revision. That way teachers do not have to add to their ridiculous workload.

I teach things properly first time and do a couple of revision sessions on my terms.
Revision is a job for students to do.

Why some parents think our job is to continually bail students out and spoon feed an easy route to the grade they want is beyond me.
