Kings College School Wimbledon Deferred 10+ too difficult??

Hello,

We are considering putting DS in for this next year. It's only for boys who attend state schools, However, they only take 4 boys! Is it really difficult / harder than any of the other 10+ boys schools' exams?? I don't want to dent DS's confidence...

We're also thinking of doing it! I know someone this year who is doing it and they do cap the numbers so the odds may not be very different from the other 10pluses.
They ask for a report from the primary school before deciding whether your DS can sit it so I think if you go in with the idea that's it's good practice and a very long shot then it's possibly worth a go!

For all the 10 plus exams you must view it as practice and not actually achieving a place. Everyone sitting is top of their class and viewed as an outstanding dc or they wouldn't be there. You can try Hampton or Kingston Grammar for practice too but beware of the size of deposit cheque requested if you are successful.

Thank you. But how can they select just from a school report? That must be difficult when a lot of the boys will be working at a very high level.

The 4 boys finally offered must be geniuses!

I think they base it on levels- they do say that at 11 plus they should be 'exceeding' state school levels to stand a chance.

But also a 'genius' might fail miserably at an interview??!

Who knows? Will ask my friend to try and guess how many are sitting it. I know noone applied this year or last from our primary ( although did at 11 plus) so the numbers going for it may be less than you think as will be put off by the 'up to 4 places!'

Just read back my post- didn't mean exceeding state school levels as such but on our end of year reports they say meeting expected level or exceeding/ below and I think they are expected to get 'exceeding expected level'.

I'm not sure why they only take so few boys at this stage. Other schools take more, albeit from a bigger pool.
