Sport at Highgate School

Hello, was trying to get a handle on sport at Highgate from Y7 onwards....
How many times a week do they have Games ?
What are the major sports and which sport is played in which term ?
Are there fixtures every week or almost every week against other schools ?
Are there sports tours run outside of London and abroad ?
My DS is sporty and has been lucky enough in his current prep to have had great opportunities playing lots against other schools weekly and also in tournaments across the country and abroad, so wondered what Highgate has to offer.
We visited Highgate School last year but these questions escaped me then.
Thanks in advance

in Y7 the main sport for boys is football. They play twice a week (I think- will check) and there is also an after school football club. Matches against other schools most weekends, generally Saturday morning. Also another PE lesson weekly eg gym. The first overseas football tour is In Y8. Summer sports offered are cricket, tennis and athletics, with clubs and fixtures as above.

From Y8 they get more choice and can pick between football, swimming, cross country, fives and a few others (I can check if you’re interested). But football is by far the most popular. Rugby is not offered as a main sport.

Weekend matches and tours continue all the way up the school.

Hope that helps. Is he sitting on Monday? If so, good luck!

Just checked- it’s one x football, one x PE (gym/dance/swimming/fitness) in Y7.

Fives is a big thing. There is a huge choice, just not rugby.

Bimmy76 thank you so much for your most helpful reply. So in Y9 would it be 2 x games and 1 x PE or 1 x Games and 1 x PE.
Where do they take them for Football and cricket ?

In year 9 they have sport every week (they can choose from a huge range including e.g. golf and sailing) and PE every 2 weeks. They also have after-school activities every week which includes loads of sport options.
They do football and cricket in the grounds of the school or the sports field by Kenwood which is about 10 mins walk.

You should check out the Highgate twitter Spex page. Spex = sport and exercise. I have a DS at the school. He is very sporty and loves it there. Plays football once a week as part of the timetable, games once a week, after school football once a week, and a fixture on a Saturday. There are also lunch time options if they can fit those in. Great overseas tours too - Netherlands in Year 8. Barcelona in Year 9. Think they do the US for older boys.
