Marking/checking each others work/tests?

Dc said they done a test at school and then they marked each others tests. There were 20 questions and then you could get extra marks for spelling and punctuation. My dc got all questions right but the pupil who checked the test didn’t award the 2 extra marks for spelling and punctuation even though there were no spelling mistakes or any issues with punctuation, as that is actually one of the things dc is really good at. They were then told they had to say their scores out loud and the teacher made a note of their scores. They were also told these scores count towards their grades. So my question is, do teachers actually double check the tests to make sure pupils were awarded the correct marks? Surely sometimes kids make mistakes?

Why didn’t ask get the teacher to check the mark? Kids normally go ‘Miss, he gave me 13 but actually it was 15’.

What’s wrong with two marks? For the kid it is a sense of injustice.

Op it is always better to put their hand up and ask the teacher for clarification.

As others said, why didn't DC point this out at the time? Or at least the end of the lesson? I doubt that teachers double check - though I also doubt that 2 marks less in 1 test will make the slightest difference to anything.

The same thing happens in pub quizzes.

Does it really matter?

Look at the big picture - the only purpose of the tests is to ensure that people have learnt certain material - if they have learnt it, they’ve achieved the objective (doesn’t matter much abou the score right?)

The bigger picture is that students learn about how marks are awarded and gained. Questioning about 2 extra marks should be encouraged, if it doesn't involve shouting out etc.

DD's school does this (maybe not for big tests but everything else including homework). She had to do art homework about an 'artist' who specialised in highly stylised black and white images. We laughed at the peer reviewer who suggested she use some colour in her presentation which was deliberately done to evoke the style of the artist!???

I don't really see it as a good thing BTW.
