Foundation or higher

Hi. Dd doesn't need maths or science for college course and struggles at higher in both even though she is in second set. She doesn't want stress of higher papers. Can she choose foundation or can school force her to do higher.

Surely school will put her in for the appropriate exams? If they think she can get a 6 they'll put her in for higher. If they think she's heading for a 5 or lower they'll put her in for foundation.

The trouble with foundation is you have to be very accurate.
Unless it is a small school or your DD has a SpLD I would be surprised if a second set person wasn't doing Higher.
(At our school second set would be on for grades ~6-8)

She needs gcse maths for whatever step she takes next, even if not relevant to the course itself. If she takes foundation there is less room for manoeuvre between a 4/5 pass or a 3.

What year is she in and what grade is she aiming for? If she’s in Y11 then she’ll be having mocks soon and the school will see how she goes and decide on tier of entry after.
