Hello,

I'd love to hear from anyone with experience of Fulham Boys School - if they're happy with it, think their DC are being taught well, nice kids, etc.

It looks good but as it's still quite new I'd love to know more.

Thank you.

I would like to hear about experiences of Fulham Boys' School too. The Headmaster has got together with a couple of other active and influential Christian Evangelicals to propose a school for Mortlake and the more you google the more alarm bells it rings. You can find the Headmaster's sermons in various independent Christian Evangelical where he says 'women submit, men love, children obey" Then there is the recent visit from America for a week by the International Outreach Director of the American Evangelical Organisation of the Council for Manhood and Womanhood who proselytise similar beliefs. They call it complementarianism but it is actually just plain old fashioned misogyny and homophobia.

One of the other proposers of the school in Mortlake is a Scientist whose work is used as "scientific evidence" (though not respected as such by his peers) that we are all descended from Adam and Eve which is the only god given model for human relations. Not hard to see where the Headmasters blog that argues for equal debate of the theories of evolution and creationism originated...

I cannot imagine wanting my son to be exposed to these values which are surely contrary to the "British values" on equality that we are promised will be upheld in our schools but perhaps parents could shed some light on that?

Fulham Boys school - how is the teaching and the school in general?
Thank you

My friend's husband teaches there. He studied law in Cambridge but became a teacher soon after and has been teaching at FB for as long as I know. He's a kind and intelligent man. Two ladies I know have a son each there and they love it.

Hi Strawberries!
thank you for finding the time to reply!

Could your FBS mum friends tell me if the school provide Learning Support for boys that need to go back over a topic they haven’t fully grasped?
I am worried that my son could ‘fall down a crack’ if he isn’t keeping up despite being national average academically.
He is neither ‘too set’ nor extreme SENCO/Statemented when I know these boys can qualify for extra help.
I know the very bright and the SENCO can do very well but what happens to the boys who sit in the middle?!
Tinkerbel! 😊
perhsps the Law teacher could shed light on this!

No extra study support except council funded ALNs if you qualify under ECHP or at discretion of SENCO you would have to personally persuade. Prior to joining my kid was first in most subjects, and in subjects they did not offer. It was rare to be given extension tasks which only happened in science and was limited. Including that teacher went absent for a year and they had no proper science teaching. My child did not enjoy the atmosphere generated in the school therefore his academics declined significantly and I personally had to provide tutors to keep his primacy in subjects by purchasing tutoring on weekends and we left, as soon as we found a different school meeting promise and expectation.

My son is finishing his A levels this summer and has been at FBS since Y7. I think it's a terrific school. Really committed teachers, very supportive. The ethos feels strict but warm. They have high standards for the boys. It's non selective and they try and bring out the best in each pupil, whatever their strengths turn out to be. I thought the founding headmaster was excellent and the current one also seems to be doing a very good job. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend but it might not suit everyone.
