DD in Yr 10 and loves Georgraphy. When she chose it we were warned that there was a tonne of content, but that it wasn't hard.

DD normally does cards, but she's already got a massive stack and doesn't see how using cards is going to work for the entire course content as the volume of cards will just be to big.

She doesn't like using mind maps for revision so that's out.

Any other recommendations for effective revision methods? The only other way we can think of is to just writing it out on A4 instead of cards but that seems a bit ... I dunno...uninspired.

DD did endless mindmaps, sorry.
Otherwise just reading & rereading, I guess, & getting someone to quiz her.

She could invent some questions & write essay answers to them, I guess.

Have you tried something like quizlet?

The Seneca learning website seems to be getting a lot of recommendations from teachers on my twitter feed at the moment.

If she’s going to do it on A4, divide it into 2 columns and do it in a question and answer format. Put the question in one column and the answers in another. Then she can just cover one column and self test.

Something that really helped my DS was putting together A4 fact sheets for each case study that he had. And making sure he really understood what each one was supposed to represent!
So eg - earthquake in High Income Country - when, where, size, no. of casualties, responses, planning for future events etc. Then doing the same for Low income Country

DS2 made an index card for each case study and A4 revision posters for the rest of the material. He is not particularly good at geography but managed to get a 9. He thinks this is because he used the right key words and memorised statistics for the case studies.

Haven't tried anything on line - will give that a look.

Q&A format a good idea - thanks

DS got a 9 in Geography. OCR gcse syllabus A. Now doing A level.

He used quizlet and actually did it as he started revising. For a level he has decided to do it as he goes along at the end of each topic so that the questions and answers are already in the system so to speak.

He also did case study sheets.

Wheresthebeach · 04/10/2018 22:05

Thanks will look at quizlet too
