Help! It hasn't been so long since I moved to Loughton and I am looking for people whose children are going (or seriously thinking of going) to JCOSS next September for Year 7. I am asking as I literally know nobody here since I moved from Hertfordshire over a year ago.

If you live nearby, I am happy to get in touch and work something out to get our children to meet up. My DS is currently in Year 6.

Aren't you too far out? I know someone who has gone recently at sixth form, where catchment wasn't an issue. But I THOUGHT the catchment area had collapsed to much nearer the school for the main part of the secondary school. I know people who have gone from my area, including one on my street (we are not as far along on the Central Line as you - think zone 4). But this was when it was literally first opening several years ago. I am thinking of the school in Barnet.

Anyway - good luck and I do hope I'm wrong!

I am assuming you don't already have an older child in the school too.

They've changed the admission rules for Sept 19 intake, so aside from siblings and a few places by distance, the remainder are now allocated purely by lottery (no more feeder schools, though obviously this will filter down via siblings). I'm looking at JCoSS too, OP, but we're not in the same area at all I'm afraid! Hope you're able to find someone local.

Can anyone tell me year 7 jcoss is induction gentle - new kids In separate playground to older ones ?

Do they help at all if you dyslexic /struggle with maths? Or are they only interested In helping top sets?

Is it ok socially if you don’t know anyone & haven’t come from a jewish school?

Metropolitan · 02/03/2019 23:08

Did you get a place at JCoSS @Goodfellas1978? We have, unexpectedly, having convinced ourselves there was a vanishingly small chance of it being offered.

One of the things we really liked about it was the induction for Y7s, separate playground etc. DD is also at a non-Jewish primary and we are in NW zone 2 so she would be getting the coach, it's a long journey so we're worried about that and the fact the intake is so geographically huge. No-one else we know has been offered a place (including friends who put it 1st choice Blush) so feels like a bit of a step into the unknown!

Any current parents on MN who can tell me about the school? Obviously have been there more than once and liked lots of things, but factors above are a concern and there are some v old threads on here but not much recent experience. Is it true that there's tons of tutoring at GCSE/A-Level as well?? TIA!

Kids and teachers great - headmaster great. Parents a bit over-involved In my experience. My kids aren't there but have lots of relatives who are.

@samG76 That’s good to know - I really liked the Head thought he was very impressive. “Parents a bit over-involved” Grin. Thanks for the info
