sets linked with no relevence

my daughter who excelled in art has been put into bottom sets not because of her art set but because of her dt and computer science are not as good because they have linked the subjects, no idea why they are linked i asked if it was a too many children in the school issue she said no it is a not enough classes or teachers (probably the same thing) i told her it has been a blow to my daughter and she said it makes no difference when i turned that back on her and said well why move her down she said how important computer science was (later saying only if she is taking computer science int gcse will it make a difference) she seemed to not be able to grasp that my daughter may well decide not to even bother in art now because she is lower sets to quote someone about how it affects children she said "why try and be a porsce when you will only ever be a moped" and that children in lower sets lower there expectation, i am at a loss as what to do as i got the usual response from the teacher she will have to be exceptional to move up in this not even related subject to move up in art, what do i do?

I’m surprised the school sets for Art - schools usually only set core subjects.

What year is your DD in?

Is the teaching for art really massively different between sets?

Computer Science in particular needs a completely different set of skills to Art. I imagine she won't be the only one in a "wrong" set.

What year group?
It will have been done for timetabling.

She needs to think of her Art as mixed ability not set. She just happens to be doing Art with people who are at the same ability level as she is for computing.

I suspect that the Computer science needs to be set because whole class teaching needs differentiating in KS3 (like Maths and Science), whereas Art it is easier to go round and give differentiated input to individuals.

Computer science at school is a waste of time imo. It's dds worst and most boring subject. Not sure why it's given so much importance.

I always found IT lessons hopelessly outdated and aimed at the rare person with no access to a computer.

It's a strange way to set for a subject like art.

It is probably that certain subjects are set but others aren't but that she is still being taught with that group of students for timetabling purposes rather than it being bottom set art.
