Is anyone else trying to support their year10/11 with this?

Ds says poetry is just something written for gcse students to analyse. We are trying to inspire him.

All ideas welcome.

Get him to listen to John cooper Clarke. I'd get shot if i.actually did it with my kids, but seeing him.live (not currently-he was shit 6 months ago) made me wish we could show kids how entertaining poetry can be.

I try and sell poetry to the 'whats's the point?' Crew on the basis that it's a puzzle that you're trying to solve. Doesn't help that Aqa pick some piss poor poems; 'letters from Yorkshire', yr 11 are looking at you.

So. Listen to John. Cooper Clark on YouTube?

is This be the Verse on the list? ace!

Agree it's a puzzle to solve, not something you will enjoy is the way to go if they are not a fan. Tho I recall reading Mother Any Distance to Ds2 aged about 11 and he really got it. Not sure if that's on the syllabus tho.

Get them to set it to music. It's no different to a song IMO and they all know thousands of lyrics so should be able to remember a load of poems!
