If you have kids in Y10/ Y11 or are a teacher:
How much time do they have allocated for the core subjects and options?

Core subjects
Music x 3 hours
Maths x 3 hours
English x3 hours containing both Lang and Lit
Double Science x 4 hours

Options: German x 3 hours
Art x 2 hours but additional outside class hours

When DD did GCSEs under the old system they got

  • 5 hours contact per option per fortnight (25hrs)
  • and 25hrs core (something like 7 maths, 7 English, 2 ICT, 2 RE, 5 core science, 2 PE) per fortnight

The 5 options included a science block so double science was 5hrs from option then I think 5 hrs from core too.

After RE done in y10, the RE lessons went to English & maths.

I don't know if they have changed this for the new GCSEs.

Ds (just finished) got 4x Maths, 5xEnglish 2x each of the 3 sciences 4x French, 3 xGeog 3xmusic 3xFood Tech 2x RE. Thats lessons not hrs though.

4 hours per fortnight per GCSE except
-maths which has 6 hours/fortnight

  • science which has 4 hours per GCSE (so 8 for double, 12 for triple) plus an extra hour
MsAwesomeDragon · 04/09/2018 20:09

English 4 hours
Maths has just moved to 4 hours for current year 10, year 11 still have 3 as they are under the old system where they chose an extra option.
Science (double/triple) 6 hours

All options 3 hours each.

Thanks for those examples. Was looking at how much extra time would be needed, if anything.
You have saved me having to find the required hours and working out attendance figure etc , so thank you.
