As the Tiffin deadline looms, is there a girls SW London grammars / indies thread yet?

I just realised that I need to get the Tiffin Girls form in ASAP, and wondered if anyone else is in the same position? I could do with company in this process!

We’re not yet decided but probably applying to Tiffin, WHS, SPGS, Sutton High and maybe one of PHS / Emanuel / KGS.

Thanks Winterishere!

Jimjam68 · 04/02/2019 14:59

No SW12345 I think Putney High will only have a certain number on the wait list, and that they often do go to wait list (correct me if I’m wrong someone). Whereas WHS have stated anyone who went though to stage 2 who doesn’t get an offer will be waitlisted, and they will tell you if you are in the top, middle or bottom third.

winterishereithink · 04/02/2019 15:09

The registrar at WHS is super helpful when it comes to the Waitlist and telling you what 'zone' you are in and whether there is any hope by the way. PHS a little less helpful. I don't think they (PHS) went to waitlist last year but def have in other years so they may have been a bit more coauthors with offers this year. WHS and PHS will definitely lose some of their juniors to other schools but won't know how many until the grammar and St. Paul's etc results are out so the lists may well move then.

winterishereithink · 04/02/2019 15:10

Coauthors?! Should read cautious!

Thisdoesnotgeteasier · 04/02/2019 15:41

We went through this two years ago. From memory PHS did not go to waitlist at all that year. DD did pick up several offers very late in the process - the Friday before the acceptance deadline on the Monday (early March). At that point the state school allocations were out and many people were finally informing schools of decisions. I remember it feeling like an incredibly long month as DD’s first choice had her on the waitlist and she finally got the offer that Friday afternoon. It gave us the weekend to sort out paperwork and deposit but that was fine. Good luck to everyone in that position.

Sweetnhappy1 · 04/02/2019 15:47

Congratulations to your DD Jimjam68!!!

KaliforniaDreamz · 04/02/2019 15:47

•SW12345mum• and flumeplume we very definitely got a NO Grin

Jimjam68 · 04/02/2019 15:56

Sorry to hear that Kalifornia. Is that all your results out now or do you have some still to come?

KaliforniaDreamz · 04/02/2019 16:02

no that's us done. it was no surprise and my DD hasn't even asked about it!
now to wait for state allocation and decide what to do.

congrats to all DCs for having got through it all.

SW12345mum · 04/02/2019 16:04

Sorry to hear that Kalifornia. It’s a brutal system, as I’m learning!
Thanks everyone for your replies.

Poppyred25 · 04/02/2019 16:24

Kalifornia, are you going to the SHS open day for offers? It's really worth going to. SHS won "TES independent sports school of the year" on Friday which they no doubt will mention.

Bool · 04/02/2019 16:28

Finally home from work and letter here. We are PHS waitlist too. Now the wait for WHS! Wine

KaliforniaDreamz · 04/02/2019 16:34

yeah we will got to the open morning and my DD will love it and i will have to sell a kidney Grin

Poppyred25 · 04/02/2019 16:48

Kalifornia, yes get ready to sell your kidney, the open day is super upbeat! Go with questions in your head for year 7 girls too.

littlemisslucky2 · 04/02/2019 17:15

Ha ha Kalifornia, will also potentially have a kidney for sale. Will be going to SHS offer open morning too, guessing they’ll be using all their best selling tactics! Do other schools do this too? I wish the acceptance dates for these schools were a few days later as we’ll have to be hand delivering forms to make sure they are received, depending on state option received! We’re still waiting on two more indies and then state.

littlemisslucky2 · 04/02/2019 17:19

Well done Bool on a WL place for PHS. Fingers crossed it moves for you or do you prefer WHS? They’re both brilliant schools but a bit too far for us.

Poppyred25 · 04/02/2019 17:25

Most have "open days for offers" with KGS being the most low key.
Some like SHS really make an effort as they are targeting all sorts of school combinations. I went to a super selective single sex private school 1 last year & felt they were really targeting those with Tiffins offers on the way only.
Last year there was snow in the mix in early March to double the stress of getting registration forms in on time.

FlumePlume · 04/02/2019 17:32

Sorry to hear your news Kalifornia, and good luck for the waiting list Bool.

When do the next tranche of results come out? I know WHS is Thursday, but I don’t know about KGS and LEH, which it seems a lot of people are waiting for (though it’s quite hard to keep track, so many posters, which is great as I’m loving the chance to obsess online and make like it’s not happening to everyone else!).

Irritated by the requirement to secure your place, ranging from 9.00am to midday on Mon 4 March for us anyway, when the state school results come out at 5pm on Fri 1 March. No time to even make the post with your forms. I'm sure 3 years ago we had about a week to decide after the national offer day.

FlumePlume · 04/02/2019 17:43

I was planning to have the forms all ready to go for our favoured school (once we’ve had all the letters and decided which it is), see what we get from the state offers and then hand deliver the form to whichever school it is on the Monday morning. This is doable as the deadline for all three from which we might have offers is noon, I wouldn’t try it with a 9.00am deadline!

While looking on the WHS website for the deposit deadline, I came across a date for an offer holders day - for anyone lucky enough to get that far, it’s Wednesday 13 February.

Jimjam68 · 04/02/2019 17:51

Which clashes with Putney High! Co-incidence??

AnotherYearOfChaos · 04/02/2019 18:23

@Jimjam68 and how do waitlist places work if people are only turning down on the Monday after state school confirmations?
So waitlists come up after the deadline for accepting? You could end up paying for 2 schools deposits or worse a terms fees in lieu. Which we just can't do...

TheExtraGuineaPig · 04/02/2019 18:26

KGS is posting on Feb 14th, not that the date is engraved on my brain or anything Confused

1ndig0 · 04/02/2019 18:37

Jimjam - is there something in the 13th at PHS? In the letter we have it’s a “Second Sight” visit on 27th Feb.

DD was not keen on PHS tbh but I’ve been trying to big it up in case it’s the only offer she gets!

1ndig0 · 04/02/2019 18:39

Apparently she said someone in her school had been offered a PHS music scholarship, sports scholarship, academic scholarship plus a fourth one for art! Shock Can this be possible?
