As the Tiffin deadline looms, is there a girls SW London grammars / indies thread yet?

I just realised that I need to get the Tiffin Girls form in ASAP, and wondered if anyone else is in the same position? I could do with company in this process!

We’re not yet decided but probably applying to Tiffin, WHS, SPGS, Sutton High and maybe one of PHS / Emanuel / KGS.

I think it will be this week as Surbiton have historically been earlier with their offers, usually before end of January, recently 22/23 Jan. In their e-mail they said by the beginning of Feb which to me means by end of this week!

*next week I mean. I expect we’ll hear by Friday or Saturday. just hope it’s good news!

Anyone know what numbers sat SHS and how many come from juniors? Trying to work out the odds!

Think most of juniors so 40+?
Not sure how many sat though.
Didn't they have a bulge year close to 180 with lots accepting in 2017?

Thanks. I had in mind 180 places but maybe that was a one off.

SHS have assured junior school parents they won't go to more than 7 classes - 7 x 24 = 168 in the year.

Did anyone else sit G&L? The lady organising the waiting room while the interviews were on told everyone that 900 applied this year (100 places). They interview everyone, but it does make you wonder how they select from a computer test, brief interviews of all 900 and a school reference (which will inevitably be largely dependent on the personality of the prep / junior school head anyway). I wonder if they just chop off the top say, 200 scorers in the CAT computer test and then look at the other two factors? The interview was quite general and I’m not sure there would have been too much difference between most of the girls tbh, talking about hobbies, etc and a few pictures. They did ask all the girls who had applied to SPGS how far they got in the process, but they didn’t ask about any other schools . Another consortium school DD applied are following the same process this year. Other schools such as PHS which also interview everyone, at least have the English papers to assess writing style, etc.

Does anyone know when PHS results are out? Is it 6th of Jan?

Yes. DD sat G&L.
All Putney said was "early February" for results. I asked as I couldn't find anything on the website or in the paperwork. ☹️

I think Surbiton letter always used to arrive on a Saturday, can anyone confirm from last year if that was the case?

SHS was posted on the 25th last year - not sure what day of the week it was? They emailed us to say letters had been posted. Good luck all!

Is the 144 plus the junior school?

Re SHS If they are promising the parents 20ish in a class it's 144 but they will cram in more. A handful of the SHS junior school girls are waiting for other school offers on 15 Feb and Tiffin on 1 March so not all will go to Senior, nobody knows how many.

After extensive trawling of previous threads I have found out that PHS offers arrived on Saturday the 3rd of Feb 2018 and WHS on Thursday the 8th of Feb 2018...

I think last year PHS and LEH were on the same day (from looking at threads, not personal experience)

So WHS are posting on Feb 6th this year and LEH posting on the 8th. PHS somewhere between the 2 perhaps?

HeadSpinning WHS is definitely posting on 6 Feb, I’ve had a few letters and emails which mention that date. Don’t know about the others, I’m afraid.

1ndig0 That’s a really weird approach by G&L at interview, especially only asking about one other school. Though at least you have an idea what they asked, my dd still hasn’t said anything at all about what was discussed at her last one.

Flume - 4 girls from DD’s prep have had SPGS interviews and they were all slightly different. Why won’t your DD tell you anything? They all had at least one corker of a question, but all different.

People whose DDs has sat in previous years had told me the questions ranged from - “Does the hole belong to the donut or the donut belong to the hole?” Or, “Can a hurdles race ever be fair?” Or, “Name 10 uses for a brick (but not building).”

It is odd that G&L only asked about SPGS specifically (not LU for instance). I guess they’re similar-sized schools with similar results. Did you not apply for G&L?

1ndig0 We didn’t apply for G&L, partly because we wanted to limit the number of applications. As for the interview, dd appears to have been too busy chatting to take mental notes, and she’s pretty reluctant to discuss it. I think it just reminds her of the fact she’s waiting for letters, which is all bit nerve-wracking, and so I haven’t pressed her.

My dd sat 11+ last year, Surbiton offer results were first out (rejections were sent out later) we received them mid-week followed by a call back to interview from KGS. PHS results and KGS results were at a similar time followed by NHEHS & WHS. KGS was an exploding offer, beware ladies! Dd had offers from all but WHS and chose SHS (it was always her favourite) and is exceedingly happy there, the pastoral care is outstanding. There are a 170 in her year, 25 in her class. DS sat 8+ at the same time for Kings & SPJ, offers were sent by email very soon after. All the girls who were waitlisted at dds school for NHEHS, WHS, G&L and Hampton (boys) all received WL places. A lot of movement after Tiffin & SPGS results. Best of luck!

Oooo I thought KGS was one week later than the girls schools eg 14th Feb. It was later last year and what I have received indicates it is one week after PHS and WHS

KGS is definitely the 14th, there was an email repeating it last week (presumably to stop people asking??!!)

Does anyone know the kind of ratio of interviewed children to offers made?

Last year it was about 200 for 120 places. The interview invitation came after Surbiton offer and the offer came before the NHEHS, HTH.
