As the Tiffin deadline looms, is there a girls SW London grammars / indies thread yet?

I just realised that I need to get the Tiffin Girls form in ASAP, and wondered if anyone else is in the same position? I could do with company in this process!

We’re not yet decided but probably applying to Tiffin, WHS, SPGS, Sutton High and maybe one of PHS / Emanuel / KGS.

Re KGS- last year we didn't get any info on what type it was. I thought it may be English based as DD thought she'd done exceptionally badly on the comprehension but it was very general. Just a nice chat and very relaxed. Everyone in her class who got an interview seemed to have the same.

TheExtraGuineaPig · 14/01/2019 10:03

Our email from KGS doesn't specify what type of interview it is either, DD said both English and Maths went quite well (English was better) so I don't really know if that means she just has a general interview or if there might be further info this week.

TheExtraGuineaPig · 14/01/2019 10:04

Winterishere Can I ask what school your DD is at and if you chose between more than one?

Sweetnhappy1 · 14/01/2019 10:10

FlumePlume same here! I laughed when I saw the queue and said "what does this remind you of" but yes luckily it moved much quicker than Tiffin. So glad this will all be over today! Best of luck!

winterishereithink · 14/01/2019 10:19

Extra- we did have more than one to choose from in the end- came from a state school and didn't really have a clue so sat more than we needed to really.
DD is at WHS so is enjoying a day off today!
I have 2 more DCs so will have to go through this all again at some point!

TheExtraGuineaPig · 14/01/2019 10:41

Thanks Winter! I was wondering if you had chosen between SHS and KGS specifically. We didn't apply to WHS as it's a bit far.

winterishereithink · 14/01/2019 11:02

We pondered over all of them a lot and know various people at both SHS and KGS who are all happy.

Jimjam68 · 14/01/2019 11:10

Still a depressing number of girls at WHS this morning, despite them chopping 50% after stage 1. Am torturing myself by speculating how many offers they will make. 2x no of places, 3x no of places??

1ndig0 · 14/01/2019 11:26

Hi does anyone with previous experience of the SPGS process remember what time the email re- interviews comes on Wednesday please?

89fomveg · 14/01/2019 11:26

How many places are available for WHS? I can’t seem to remember... it certainly seems very popular!

winterishereithink · 14/01/2019 11:42

Last year it was between 60-65 I reckon. They went to wait list as well.

dontjudgemummy · 14/01/2019 11:53

*extraguinea I've got a DD in upper years at KGS. Very happy with the school. I would say a big decider between SHS and KGS is obviously Co Ed versus all girls. Also, worth pointing out that as KGS has a smaller intake so everyone who wants to can get into a team as they have A-D across all sports. I loved SHS, however. But we (and she) wanted co ed for DD

FlumePlume · 14/01/2019 11:59

Up-thread Jimjam said this about WHS:
Nearly 700 sat stage 1, so around 350 invited back for stage 2, possibly less.

It certainly looked like more than 350 girls there this morning!

OP posts:
Sweetnhappy1 · 14/01/2019 12:10

It looked like a lot but at least half of those people were parents.... this is what I'm telling myself anyway Grin

chipolte · 14/01/2019 12:49

Hello, I’ve been lurking on this thread and am finding it really helpful. DD in year 5 and will be sitting WHS next year and is our first choice. Any info you’re allowed to give about this morning’s rather mysterious assessments will be gratefully received.

Good luck to your DDs this morning!

Jimjam68 · 14/01/2019 15:52

It felt like more than 350 to me too 😟.

Sweetnhappy1 · 14/01/2019 16:33

They were in groups of 7ish, my daughter reckons there were 48 groups = 336?

Jimjam68 · 14/01/2019 17:23

That would make sense Sweetnhappy and I understand the junior school girls also took part this morning, so are included in that number?

Sweetnhappy1 · 14/01/2019 17:31

Jimjam68, I'm not sure. Didn't someone upthread say her year 7 DD had a day off today?

1ndig0 · 14/01/2019 17:35

I’m on here hoping someone has info about SPGS, but if I remember from previous yoesrd when my older DC friends sat WHS, they offer maybe 90 places to fill the 60-65? Plus a waiting list. One year nearly everyone accepted, so they had to put on a bulge class.

Glaciferous · 14/01/2019 21:21

We had an email the Wednesday after the exams last year for SPGS. I have just looked and it came through about 12.30. The results were posted to us via snail mail on Thurs 8th Feb and we got the letter the following day.

Colorbomb · 15/01/2019 07:38

Certainly in previous years SPGS have gone through the list of callbacks alphabetically starting mid morning so early alphabet surnames heard much earlier than later ones. Unless something’s changed.

FlumePlume · 15/01/2019 09:54

Thanks, Glaciferous and Colorbomb, I had also been wondering at what point tomorrow to expect an SPGS e-mail. I’m fairly sure it will be a no interview, from what dd said about the maths papers, but she’s pretty confident so I’m going to need to manage that. It sounds as though the letters were a lot earlier last year - this year they say they will post final results on 14 February, having done the interviews in the week of 21 January.

Dd enjoyed WHS yesterday, and from what she said it truly wasn’t tutorable, which I think is excellent.

1ndig0 · 15/01/2019 10:03

Thanks Glac and Colour. I wonder if it’s a no, do they just send that out first thing, or wait until the end of the day? Also wouldn’t they just send all the emails together?
As you can tell, I’m looking forward to tomorrow Confused. I should know better - this is my third time with DC in this process (not this school though)!

1ndig0 · 15/01/2019 10:05

Flume - I think all the schools send results on the same day, or they have co-ordinated it in previous years. It happens to coincide with the last day if term usually - I wonder why? Grin
