GCSE double science grade '43' what does this mean?!

thatcoldfeeling · 23/08/2018 10:31

Exactly that, can someone quickly help on this?

Double science - grade 1 '43' points (not grade) - 3.5. Does this mean less than a level 1 overall!? Shock

This started trending before there were any recent posts on it!

@Prettybluepigeons

How is this trending when it has only one post THIS YEAR??????
I believe it's based on views, not posts. So one post bump at it, everyone else looks at it but doesn't post but people keep looking and thus it makes trending.

This is weird. My son was entered for foundation CAG was 5 5 and he’s got 9 8 which must be a mistake.

Prettybluepigeons · 20/08/2020 12:36

That is weird! Are you not tempted to keep scrum about it though??Grin

MitziK · 20/08/2020 12:36

@thatcoldfeeling

There was no hyphen or anything at all, it was literally written as '43' hence totally baffled!

I have just watched this which seems to suggest as per @MrsacksonAvery that this is one old style grade C pass, and one old style D.

Wish the school exam's office would answer their phone though!

The exams officer is going to be a bit busy with the kids at the school, not sitting by the phone waiting for calls.
MitziK · 20/08/2020 12:37

FFS. Zombie.

Oh well, if anybody else is wondering why the EO isn't answering the phone today, it's because they're busy.

peony68 · 20/08/2020 12:55

Yes means 4 on one 3 on the other , my son got exactly this result last year .

Devlesko · 20/08/2020 13:03

I bet the kid has their A level result now Grin

Musmerian · 20/08/2020 13:10

Ok have clarity on this now. Ofqual overrode the foundation tier ceiling in some cases. The dual science grade is the two numbers and hyphens etc are irrelevant. OP I’m afraid that means your child got a 4 and a 3.

Musmerian · 20/08/2020 13:12

@Prettybluepigeons - no need to keep shtum as officially it’s legit. I’m pissed of though because it’s nonsense really and in a way devalues the subjects where he worked really hard and got 8s and 9s. It’s because he was top in a week class and in a high achieving school so the algorithm made assumptions.

Musmerian · 20/08/2020 13:13

Weak!

Nik2015 · 21/08/2020 17:34

A 4 is a low grade C, but still a C.
A 3 is a D grade.
They get 2 grades for combined science so the person got a 4-3 which is a C-D.

FelicisNox · 21/08/2020 19:08

How can you get between a 3 and a 4?

One is a pass and one is a fail, surely you need one definitive answer?

I hate this system. It's unnecessarily complicated when the old system worked just fine.

Kimbob33 · 21/08/2020 23:01

My dd got an 8/7 which is an A/B for combined science. It is so confusing. Don’t know why they had to change it. It’s all a bit crazy! Either way be proud of what your child got. They did their best xx

ShoshanaBlue · 22/08/2020 20:52

Thank feck we did separate sciences....

ShoshanaBlue · 22/08/2020 20:53

Kimbob33 8 = A* and 7 = A

Kimbob33 · 23/08/2020 13:29

@ShoshanaBlue.

Oh ok. Well that’s even better then lol. So confusing. Thank you for that info.

beigebrownblue · 12/08/2021 10:06
