Independant schools East Anglia - performing arts

Currently looking at secondary schools for DD who is about to go into Yr 6.

She hasn't had the easiest time at primary and struggles with friendships. However she is very driven by drama and performing arts where she seems more able "to find her tribe".

We are thinking a private school might be better able to cater for her needs (smaller classes, more extra-curricular options)

Ideally we want a school that has a strong angle on drama/PA and is also very nurturing.

Have looked at private schools around Bury St Edmunds but would appreciate any other recommendations.

King's Ely sounds ideal

Hadn't thought about Kings. Do you know if its massively academic?
Whilst it's obviously important to us not sure how DD would cope in a very academically driven school

I guess most independent schools offer a good amount and variety of extra-curricular drama activities. Have you consider the Royal Hospital School? I've no idea how the drama compares to other schools, but there's certainly plenty going on - and it's not as academically driven as some other independents. There's quite a spread of ability, and all abilities are well catered-for. Pastoral care is also excellent, and the school has a fab ethos.

No King's is not overly academic. Its definitely worth a look. DS went there until year 8 but we moved him because he is very academic. There may even be an open day soon. Also search some of their productions on youtube. I'll see if I can attach links

Scroll through and look especially at Grease in December 2017 for example

Aaagh the link won't work - have a look at their website anyway

Do these work?

Got it! Thanks Reservoir.
It does look incredible and right up DD's street.
Apart from cost my only concern would be travel. We live a good hour from Ely and couldn't afford boarding
