Yes, agreed bluebelle

LARLARLAND · 16/08/2018 11:29

I’m not sure what the exam board could do about the Ozymandais/Singh Song issue. Do people think one was harder then the other?

androbbob · 16/08/2018 11:48

Morning! Having a quick catchup

alwayshiding - lovely to hear from you - hopefully school are helpful with A Levels given your DD situation. Fingers crossed. I am amazed what some people have to cope with and the lack of support from the system.

rogue sorry to hear the results weren't as you had hoped - with a DD myself who has some MH issues, I can empathise with you. I am surprised that my DD managed to cope with exams and did all of NCS (apart from one day which was missed as she felt ill and had a busy weekend with family and time of the month) - I do wonder how these children will cope away from us.

superdoodle - good to hear that the English mix up didn't affect your DS Eng Lit grade - cant comment on regrading but is it worth the cost? Hopefully others will have experience of it or school can offer some advise.

Third - fabulous news! Hope he is very pleased with the actual grades he gets. A friend of mine - her son missed out on 1 grade to get the course of his choice - 3 x A grades but needed 1 A* at A level is really high. Makes it all a bit real for us all next week.

adrinkofwater - another Wow well done! I bet these kids don't know the stress we all feel for these exam results - I wonder what we sill all be like next week!

DD is on her last week on NCS and so far they have raised over £1000 for their chosen charity Alder Hey childrens hospital. People have been so generous - from putting spare change in their buckets to putting in £10 and £20 notes. Seems to be a lot of people have experienced the hospital in some way and are paying it back. Her leaders are really impressed with them and the hospital are coming to collect the money tomorrow - photo opportunity there!

DD was talking about the English poems debacle and she was one of the lucky ones who got the ozymandais one as a mock in class question where they developed an answer as a group - she reckons there is nothing to be done from what she has seen on line.

I cant even think about next week yet - its still 7 days away!

TheThirdOfHerName · 16/08/2018 12:10

He got BBC!

B in History is great; he was hoping for B or C.

C in Politics is OK; he was hoping for B or C.

B in English Literature is completely inexplicable; he got low D in the coursework, did read the texts but didn't do much revision or learn any quotes.

cubscout · 16/08/2018 12:13

Smile he obviously read the texts well then! Congrats again.

Cherryburn · 16/08/2018 12:19

Maybe they rewarded original thinking! That’s brilliant.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 16/08/2018 12:19

Not sure what they can do with the English Lit poems. DS3 had Ozymandius but had not seen the practice paper, so if they mark it lower due to some having already practised it, he would be unfairly marked down. TBH, they had gone through all the poems with their teacher as will have most classes so having it on a practice paper isn't that much help. Some may have ruled it out to revise thinking it wouldn't come up again. Impossible to judge all the different scenarios.

Checking in again after a lovely relaxing holiday - this time next week we will know where our DCs stand. I feel that hollow sick feeling when I think of it. Well done on the A level successes - I need to spend an hour or two catching up.

HesMyLobster · 16/08/2018 12:42

Thankyou for all the encouragement and sympathy about A level results, especially those who popped into the year 13 thread with good luck messages.
DD got A*, A,A and has been accepted at Oxford to study Classics!
The relief is overwhelming!

sandybayley · 16/08/2018 12:45

Wonderful news from @TheThirdOfHerName and @adrinkofwater - so great to hear of plans coming together.

Interesting to hear of grade boundaries fro Ad Maths - really hoping the odds will be in our favour.

Brings g it back down to earth we've spent a fabulous morning rock climbing in the Pyrenees but DS1 hit his head on a road sign walking back to the car. Now sat in A&E waiting for it to be stitched / glued together. Wouldn't be a family holiday without a trip to hospital Wink

sandybayley · 16/08/2018 12:46

Also congrats to @HesMyLobster - more wonderful news!

Stickerrocks · 16/08/2018 12:47

He'smylobster wow!!!!! Glitterball

At least he bounced off it Sandy

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 16/08/2018 12:50

How'd I miss that, Lobster! Blinking fantastic!

Gosh, sandy all that rock climbing and he injures himself on a sign!

BlueBelle123 · 16/08/2018 12:53

Brilliant news Lobster !

Sandy hope your DS is ok, is your DS very tall or are the signs low down?

adrinkofwater · 16/08/2018 12:54

Thanks everyone. Really pleased, but totally shattered as I hardly slept last night. DD is off out with friends and I am watching rubbish TV in a Half dazed state!Grin

eaglefly · 16/08/2018 12:54

Lobster wonderful news. A huge well done. It really is scary that we will all be in this position in 2 years time where these results are impacting what we do next.

Sandy so sorry to hear about DS. Hope it's not too serious.

DD back from school after picking up Add Maths and she got an A. She is so relieved. She worked her socks off for this the whole year by herself (maths teacher was a bit useless) and it was easily the worst exam she has ever sat. We are over the moon that her hard work paid off. Would have been happy with anything for this one as really had no expectations.

KingscoteStaff · 16/08/2018 12:57

Sandy that was us last year after DS zoomed down black runs unscathed for a week, then was packing on the final evening and headbutted his own ski...

eaglefly · 16/08/2018 12:58

Congrats drink. Sorry keep missing the updates. Congrats to all 🎉

JugglingMummyof2 · 16/08/2018 12:58

Well done HesMyLobster - you are bringing a successful vibe to the thread. Good luck to all our DC.

androbbob · 16/08/2018 13:05

Wow hesmylobster. Excellent results!

mmmz · 16/08/2018 13:08

Lobster wow! Many congratulations to all the A level DC today.
The news said this morning that the number of students who had got the grades for their first choice conditional university offer was down this year, bit there's not much evidence of that on MN (or amongst the people I know in RL).

mmmz · 16/08/2018 13:24

eagle fly congratulations to your DD.
It bodes well for next week if that's the worst exam she ever sat and she still got an A!

mmmz · 16/08/2018 13:26

700 posts already. I think we'll need "The Final Countdown part 2" if the thread keeps filling up at this rate.

eaglefly · 16/08/2018 13:29

Thanks mmmz

TerfTerf2 · 16/08/2018 13:29

Congrats lobster and eagle! This thread is very positive this morning Smile

I didn't get the job I interviewed for last week but they've recommended me for another position that's come up, which is better hours for me. Interview in a fortnight. Feeling wanted!
