KingscoteStaff congratulations to your DS. Those are fabulous results!

PS he is gutted to get an 8??

ReservoirDogs · 14/08/2018 10:45

And we have to remember if he had done history last year and had presented as an A he would never have known whether it was an 8 or 9 and would have been thrilled with the A.

My DS has the opposite, again feels strongly he may get a 9 but is doing a paper where it is graded A*-G so feels he may miss out on a 9 (that he may - or may not - have got).

KingscoteStaff · 14/08/2018 10:49

mmmz yes - best subject, A level subject, potential degree subject, thought he’d nailed it etc etc etc

Also now worried that if he didn’t get top marks in his best subject, what on earth is going to happen next week with Maths + Sciences that he finds so hard...

Oratory1 · 14/08/2018 10:51

DS was jokingly saying if I get a 9 in maths I will have beaten the girls. I had to point out that their maths marks would have given them a 9 :). Thankfully it was said in jest - they are too different to be competitive.

I'm guessing most of us will be 'converting' the numbers to grades when talking to relatives and even future employers etc so he could just say he got the equivalent of x A stars

JufusMum · 14/08/2018 10:52

Kingscote massive congrats to your DS! If we get a bunch of 5 and 6's next week I'll be happy. DD chasing that 8 in RE but she thinks she messed up the first paper.

Oratory1 · 14/08/2018 10:54

I wonder whether History is one of those affected by the fact mainly bright DC take it and the same no of people have to get each grade.

goodbyestranger · 14/08/2018 11:00

Oratory no that applies to Classics, Physics etc but a broad ability range takes History.

goodbyestranger · 14/08/2018 11:01

And any 8 is fantastic.

Oratory1 · 14/08/2018 11:02

Okey doke, thanks - and yes any 8 is amazing !!!

BlueBelle123 · 14/08/2018 11:06

Kingscote personally I think any essay subject is alot harder to consistency get a top grade in unlike maths and the sciences, as so much more depends on the person marking it..........BUT an 8 is absolutely brilliant!!!

Stickerrocks · 14/08/2018 11:12

Yay. "Our" DC are off to a flying start.

mmmz · 14/08/2018 11:15

Kingscote has the exam board published any grade boundaries?

(Promised myself that I would not dwell on grade boundaries next week, but here I am trying to second guess them already!)

KingscoteStaff · 14/08/2018 11:17

Thanks, chaps! I am v. proud of him, particularly since he’s kept his sport and music going at a high level through Yrs 10 + 11. I wish he was here to give him a hug - WhatsApp doesn’t really do it!

Oratory1 · 14/08/2018 11:20

Grade boundaries have been published - I googled them and had a quick look but decided it was probably unwise to read too much into it for a different board.

ReservoirDogs · 14/08/2018 11:25

I had a look at the grade boundaries too as DS is doing 2 CIE but won't get his results until he gets his others next week.

In the ones he is taking approx 65% required for a 7 and 80% for a 9 with 8 slap bang in the middle.

But as Oratory says for the other exams he is not doing although I had a look it was more curiosity than trying to gauge what Edexcel/OCR will need!

hmcAsWas · 14/08/2018 11:42

Fab set of results Kingscote

PandaG · 14/08/2018 11:48
