Presume AQA further maths is on the 23 rd with the rest
Yes, it is.

sandybayley · 13/08/2018 18:01

@TheThirdOfHerName - brilliant news! The first time of doing something new is always the worst for the DC (and is!) but when they manage it successfully it's so satisfying for all concerned.

@KingscoteStaff - did the school always plan on releasing the IGCSE results early? DS1 school has always held them back until the week after along with Ad Maths.

HesMyLobster · 13/08/2018 18:25

Ah well done to Third's DS! Sounds like he had a brilliant day!

DDs have made it back from the festival in one piece- phew!

Gosh Kingscote, tomorrow!! How many CIE subjects did your DS do?
Will anybody else be getting results tomorrow?
Good luck and I hope you manage to sleep tonight! 🍀

KingscoteStaff · 13/08/2018 18:30

Always tomorrow, apparently. Two English, French, History and Music.

sandy - very deja vu to 3 and a half years ago when we were awaiting the DDs’ secondary school envelopes and hoping they would be A4!!

Oratory1 · 13/08/2018 18:49

Ooh that’s quite a chunk of them - very best of luck.

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/08/2018 18:51

That's a great day TheThird - well done to your DS!
Just quickly wishing good luck to anyone getting results tomorrow and to the Add maths crowd on Thursday. (DS didn't do it but he says friends of his who did said it was the worst exam they'd ever sat so I reckon grade boundaries will be low!)

Cherryburn · 13/08/2018 19:05

Great news TheThird, glad he enjoyed it and managed the journey home. I think it was the same one DD did (between Y12 & 13, and for a different subject) and she thought it was great.

Like Oratory I worry about people making comparisons between DD’s results and DS’s. It would be impossible for him to better hers and I highly doubt that he’ll match them. But I know how much more of a struggle his dyslexia made it for him, and I’m incredibly proud of him for his resilience and for just keeping at it. I know that those attributes will stand him in really good stead in the future. We just have to get past next Thursday first!

Cherryburn · 13/08/2018 19:07

Best of luck for tomorrow Kingscote!! Weird to think that the school will know 3 of DS’s results now/in the morning.

Oneteen · 13/08/2018 19:11

Well done to your DS2 Third - Its a lovely feeling when they go out of their comfort zone and things go really well !

Kingscote - Gosh I didnt realise your DS had sat so many CIE exams...crossing fingers for tomorrow and good luck to all the Add Maths DC's too.

I'm nervous for all the A Level DC's too.....

Glad your DD's had a good time at the festival Hesmylobster - I must admit I am feeling nervous because DD is off to the Sundown festival camping with a friend at the end of August (I am relieved its not Reading - which I think is probably fine for boys but not 2 x 16 year girls).

Thank you for all the advice. cblue I think when the school say 11am it really will be that, they're pretty thorough in everything.
kingscote best of luck tomorrow!!

sandybayley · 13/08/2018 20:36

@KingscoteStaff - ah yes I remember the anxious wait for the A4 envelopes. Seems like a lifetime ago and now the DDs are about to start their GCSE courses.

It will be interesting to hear the IGCSE results though hugely infuriating to know DS1's results are known to the school but not us! I'm not sure if knowing the grade boundaries will be any comfort?

goodbyestranger · 13/08/2018 21:06

Peaseblossom we were playing golf this evening and I reminded DD on the 7th green about the Add Maths, having posted earlier and just remembered myself, and she basically just went hahaha it was terrible when her brothers asked how it had gone. Then they said it didn't matter anyway, at all. She seems hugely unbothered and also went on to win the hole :)

And no Stickerrocks, not a penny for any grade from me - never done it for any of the previous DC so not starting now.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 13/08/2018 21:21

No money for grades here either. My 3 have got very different challenges so it wouldn't be fair. DS2 really struggles with workload as well so even rewarding effort seems unfair. They have all had new phones after results day whatever the grades. DS3's current phone wasn't going to be replaced but the screen is coming off so good timing. Smile

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/08/2018 21:58

No money for grades here. DS got a new second-hand phone after the exams but that was more to do with his old phone giving up altogether!

Stickerrocks · 13/08/2018 22:15

Pleased to hear we're not the only ones on the cash front. Planning a nice lunch if DH is working from home, then an evening bashing tennis balls regardless.

PandaG · 13/08/2018 22:25

No cash here either, but dinner out probably. And a can of cider when we get home!

mmmz · 13/08/2018 22:48

No money from us , either.
We'd be on a hiding to nothing if we went there as then you've got to price up A levels, and maybe STEP too.
Then there's DS2. I'm trying to discourage comparisons, but putting a monetary value on things would completely undermine those efforts.
So, no, no, no, no!

PandaG · 13/08/2018 23:32

Agree cash can undermine effort. DS was quite horrified with peers getting £100 a * 2 years ago - even he said isn't the result reward in itself?

AlexanderHamilton · 14/08/2018 00:24

No money here either. We took Dd & her best friend out for a meal the evening of her last exam to celebrate & also gave her tickets for Everyone’s Talking About Jamie (which is tomorrow) as a well done for coping with everything.

I will be proud whatever she achieves.

HesMyLobster · 14/08/2018 00:38

Nope, no cash here either.
I was surprised to hear a lot of our friends with DC in this cohort have promised "an amount" per grade. Some of our closest friends were here for dinner last night and they've said £50 for a 9, £40 for an 8, £30 for a 7 etc . . . and a grand if their DD gets all 8s and 9s.
It's just incomprehensible to me - the result is the reward ** - offering something on top just negates the worth of the grades, and the effort they've put in.

I genuinely believe that the motivation to succeed through their education, particularly A Levels and beyond, has to come from within. Offering rewards is external motivation and eventually that won't be enough.

We surprised DDs with theatre tickets when the exams were over as a "well done for all the hard work - now go and enjoy yourselves" thing.
But there will be nothing on results day, apart from perhaps going for dinner, and having friends and family round to celebrate.

Twinplusone · 14/08/2018 06:25

Just a quick check-in, going on holiday today. See you all in a week.

Twinplusone · 14/08/2018 06:28

And no cash reward here. Don’t agree with the principle of it.

BlueBelle123 · 14/08/2018 07:05

Oh dear I had better go and sit in the naughty corner, as when DD did her GCSE's in a last ditch attempt to get her to work we decided to throw money at the problem, although it was based on reaching her predicted's not particular grades and as she only got one we didn't have to pay very much...........also it clearly didn't work!

So a couple of months ago DS brought it up and as I'm a stickler for treating them both the same, he will get something if he gets his predicted's but it will only be £10 per predicted not £100's!!!.........slings back off into the naughty corner Blush

eaglefly · 14/08/2018 07:10

I can't believe we are here. First set of results this am. We are away and have brought our log in details with us. DD is fast asleep and am under strict instructions not to wake her up. Just starting to look up the grade boundaries and can't remember the different components that were part of her history exam. But unless I am reading it wrong the grade boundary is really low ie around 66/67%
