Report came through last night and I'm a little confused with the numbers. There's nothing to say what these numbers are. The teachers have written comments and then there's a number.

DS is in year 7 and has 3's in art, pe, French and maths. 4's in drama, re and music and 5's in English, history, design and science.

Is this on track for year 7?

Who knows. There should have been explanation of the numbers.
Each school can devise it's own system.

What column headers did you have, and were the teacher comments positive?

If school is still open, email tutor / ring school and ask to be pointed to an explanation of the numbers. (There may be one on the website somewhere?).

Those numbers pertain to the 1-9 that the GCSE's are now graded.
I have a year 7 but she goes to grammar and they seem to have ridiculously high grades on their report, so can't comment as to whether on track or not.

Ours had gcse type grades.

So she's got an 8 in PE, 7s in a couple of things, 6s and a 4 in drama!

I think it just shows you which subjects she's doing well in compared to the others

Difficult to say if those grades are current working levels or projected "flightpath" type grades or what. You need to ask the school if at all possible.

You can't know that for sure. They could easily be modified old national curriculum levels.

And even if they are GCSE grades, does that mean 'currently working at' (grades seem too high) or 'projected to be on track for' ? And also if they related to GCSE grades they are indicating a degree of accuracy that just isn't possible at the end of year 7 when most of the new style GCSEs haven't had one set of results yet. Ours are a confusing mixture of on track for - the majority - except for the Spanish teacher who insists on giving a maximum of a 3 as that's the most they could get if they did a gcse today.

No there was no explanation to the numbers.

It has teacher comment which are all very positive, I was shocked to see it wasn't a standard response and covered what we spoke about in parents evening a few months back.

It has their eoy target and current which all match up apart from geography which was scored 3 and said developing instead of secure so I'm assuming that is a low score as it's not a favourite subject of his.

ALT, homework and eoy test grade.

I think I'll ignore the numbers and focus more on the target which seems on track except geography.

If things match up then all's good, but still totally rubbish of school to send out reports with no explanation.

(Or ATL = Attitude to Learning? That would be an important one to look at.)

Yes it was ATL, bloody phone.

Obviously I wasn't the only one confused. An email had come through to say the 5 means top 20% of their year.

In which case, could the numbers represent quintiles? If not, but the '5' represents 'in the top 20%', what do the other numbers mean?
