Hi can any SA teachers in UK or SA's who have settled in the UK let me know what you feel about UK state schools (I believe they vary hugely apparently) compare to Private SA schools. We can afford (just) to send our kids to private secondary/high schools in SA where we live but we are concerned about the economic situation/crime etc however if we move to the UK we will be sending our kids to state schools. We've heard that the outstanding ones are generally oversubscribed. Very confused. would love opinions.

How old are your children? I’m not a teacher but it’s too broad a question. Where are you looking to live? I have to say most of the UK state schools are on the whole good but not as competitive as SA schools, both academically and sporting. But the education is good and the higher education outstanding.

I’d also say the other additional benefits in the UK are wonderful and well worth considering rather than education in isolation.

It also depends on where you are considering moving to in the UK. M

Scotland has a totally different education system to England for example. No grammar schools for starters Grin

My dad did some crude comparisons with me sending him links to Nat 5 equivalent to English GCSEs exams, which he said were more difficult than the Matric (?) that his lady-friend's grandchildren were sitting in SA.

But the plural of anecdote is not data Wink
