Hi everone, we are in the process of looking at secondary schools for our child (y5). We have heard great things about Gordons but that’s mostly from parents who has typical textbook children, average or above average learners. Our son has some learning difficulties (working memory and some word finding issues, slow reader and struggles a bit with maths). He gets some basic support from his current school but I am doing most of the legwork after school. He has been assessed last year privately to see how far he’s behind and it showed that he’s working on a level of about 1.5 years behind. In my book that’s a big alarm bell going off but his primary school thinks he’s just doing fine. Even though is teacher told us at parent meeting “I am not really sure how to help him because he’s so quiet”.
Would love to hear from other parents who’s children attends Gordon’s and uses their Senco. Please give your honest feedback as it would break my heart to send my child to a school that gloss things over to look good to the outside world (like his current primary school) but would not provide adequate learning support where needed. I have heard that Gordon’s has never applied for an EHCP themselves so basically if your childs start yr7 at Gordon’s without a EHCP, you can forget to ask the school to apply.
Any other feedback about the school would be much appreciated. Is bulling an issue?
We are looking at moving closer to West End but before we can take this step, it’s important to know that the school would provide the support my child needs throughout his secondary education. I know we could visit the school and ask these questions but I am also aware that they are known to Suger coat things.
I would rather get the honest opinions from the parents - the good, the bad and ugly
