Kent College Pembury - Selective?

Hi all

I have been perusing the Kent College Pembury website and it mentions that children have sit entrance exams. Does anyone know how difficult these exams are? Harder or easier than 11+ for example? We are not religious at all and concerned about our secondary choices if the Kent Test ends up being a disaster, but will DD get into a selective private if she doesn't pass 11+? Other option could be Beechwood. Would appreciate any advice Smile

KC is definitely not a selective school.

Thanks so much for your reply! Are there no exams, or are they just for the purposes of identifying strengths and weaknesses?

I know a few people who have used it as backup in case of 11plus upset. I believe there are exams but they dont need the very high scores of West Kent state grammars. They have decent results for a school that isn't highly selective.

The exams are just to check that girls have covered the basics properly in their primary/prep schools. KC has decent results because it’s a school in a very comfortable part of the world that has a lot to offer all stakeholders. Its rural location doesn’t attract troublemakers. It’s a safe bet school for the academic middle ground with a comfortable lifestyle.

They do have to sit a test, but they don't have to score super high. I blieve a pass is adequate, if you contact the admissions office they can explain it in detail. We're looking at KC and so far really like it.

Just looking at the thread and am wondering whether any of your children started at Beechwood or Kent College. Would love to hear about it as I am looking at both schools for my daughter to stay in year 9 in September.

Hi. We're just about to take up a place at KC for our daughter starting in yr9 in September 21. Attracted by the caring pastoral side and the flexibility of approach. What did you decide to do?

Hi, we loved both schools but decided for Beechwood. My daughter could do a taster day at Beechwood and loved it but couldn’t do one at KC and I didn’t want to take any risks.
So we decided based on that.
Maybe also because Beechwood’s class sizes are smaller and it’s mixed.
But really liked KC too. I don’t think you can go wrong with either of them.
My daughter started 4 weeks ago and she is so happy there.
