Ok let me explain she is in an education centre has been for three years she was bullied out of mainstream. she went to college last year (14/16) to try again but was beaten up so went back to to centre BUT the college became her mainstream school even though she attends the centre ok here we go
her maths teacher at centre requested AQA gcse papers the college emailed back and said yes that's fine she has come to do her maths GCSE'S and OMG her gcse papers are WJEC PAPERS (WELSH) both times who do I report for wrong papers i have evidence college said they would send AQA papers im fuming she needs maths for other college she is going to my daughter is in bits and knows she won't pass both papers as she has not been taught ANY of this on the papers please help me im a single mum and just don't know what to do or who to report this is so wrong thanks in advance

You need to make an appointment with the principle of the college, or the head of maths / exams officer.

Take the emails and ask them what are they going to do?

Has she got a final paper to sit? If so then she should sit it even though it is the wrong board.

She will know how to do a lot of it, but she needs to stay calm.

She WILL ontain a qualification in maths from these exams, it may not be what she should get but she will have something.

AQA have done November resits in past years and I don't think that will change this year so college should be contacting AQA and sorting out an entry for that.

They can probably enter her for a functional skills qualification.

What does she need for her new course? Sorry to sound a bit flippant but if she is intending to do A Level maths then this is more serious, if it is another course that requires 'just' 5 GCSEs including English and maths then it may not be a total disaster.

Give her a hug and tell her how well she has done under the circumstances.

Are you in Wales? In England the content is the same on each board but the style of questions are different. But Eduqas is the name of WJEC for English schools.

noblegiraffe · 07/06/2018 11:44

she has not been taught ANY of this

The maths in the exams for each exam board is pretty much the same, just a different format, so she should have been able to have a stab at the questions.

BUT the Welsh have a completely different GCSE system to England now, they are sticking with A*-G grades not 9-1 and maths is split into Foundation, Intermediate and Higher (we have foundation and higher). If she can’t do any of it, has she also been given the wrong tier of paper? Higher instead of foundation?

You need to get the college exams officer to contact JCQ to find out whether she can get special consideration.

And she can resit in November if it goes badly. Hopefully the other college will still allow her in for sixth form if she resits, because it wasn’t her mistake.

LIZS · 07/06/2018 11:48

What did the college say after the first paper? Had she been entered for the incorrect board or issued with the wrong paper? Did you receive confirmation of her exam entry and timetable in writing to check?

noblegiraffe · 07/06/2018 11:50

Just to double check, are you in England? In which case I don’t think you’re even allowed to sit WJEC exams Confused. Are you sure it’s WJEC and not Eduqas? They are WJEC’s version of the English exams and should have exactly the content she has been taught.

catslife · 07/06/2018 16:25

I am not sure how this happened. I help to run GCSE exams in a secondary school and the first thing that we ask pupils to do is to make sure that the paper on their desks is the correct one they expect to be sitting. This would cover both exam board and the tier of paper. If there is a problem they are asked to put their hands up and we wouldn't start the exam if there was this type of problem.
It could be that a mistake has been made by the centre or it could be that exams are being run in different rooms e.g. AQA in one room and WJEC in another and your dd was in the wrong one.
The room issue should be picked up from the attendance register though.

My DD has sat WJEC exams in English Language and Lit and we are in England Confused

noblegiraffe · 08/06/2018 10:25

I assume, pickwick that she sat the Eduqas 9-1 GCSE exams? Eduqas is the English arm of WJEC and run the new 9-1 system. WJEC part of the brand are running the Welsh system of A*-G exams which won’t count in the English league tables.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 08/06/2018 10:35

Yes noble it's the new 9-1s.
I've just looked it up and it says WJEC Eduquas GCSE, our school has just been putting WJEC on emails/timetables etc which is why I was confused.
