Hello everyone!

Can anyone possibly spare 5-10 minutes to do my questionnaire for my Master's research?

I'm looking for mums and dads who have kids in secondary school to tell me what they think of geography. You can find an info sheet with more details about my research at the beginning of the questionnaire. If anyone could do it for me I'd be so grateful as I'm struggling to get enough participants :(

Thank you SO MUCH for your time, it's really appreciated. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Done. As a parent of an A level student currently taking geography I thought some of the questions were a bit odd. Given that the core subjects are compulsory at GCSE I didn't feel the need to influence my daughter's choice of her optional subjects. Nor did I at A level because she already knew what she wanted to do.

Will agree with the above comment- one of the questions about what subjects chosen at GCSE- maths, English, the sciences, RE, language are all mandatory anyway, so no choice.

done. agree re compulsory subjects.

also didn't really distinguish well between encourage to do because you think its a 'good subject' v 'one I think my child will enjoy/succeed in'.

ReservoirDogs · 05/06/2018 09:59

Done - as above most schools have a number of subjects that are compulsory at gcse so a further column indicating whixh were compulsory and therefore which were genuine options might have been useful

Done, Geography is not compulsory for my DC. Only Maths, English and 3 science.

LoniceraJaponica · 05/06/2018 12:55

I doubt that geography is compulsory anywhere at GCSE.

brizzledrizzle · 05/06/2018 13:51

Either History or Geography are compulsory at my DC's school, many pupils do both.

catslife · 05/06/2018 14:41

Agree with the above comments. My child took the science Double award for GCSE which isn't really allowed for in the subjects specified.
I didn't encourage my dd to take Geography because she hated it in Y9.
I did take this subject though!
Your questionnaire also assumes A levels then university which may not be applicable to some dcs.

HafsaGarcia · 06/06/2018 03:46

Thank you so much everyone!!! And thank you for the feedback re. the questionnaire design, I will definitely take that into consideration.

LoniceraJaponica and ReservoirDogs - that's a great point about compulsory subjects. My aim was to see what parents thought of geogrpahy in comparison to other subject, but you are right, the fact that some are compulsory and some are not does not make it a great question, wish you'd been my pre-testers!!

Catslife - thank you for your comments too - and of course you are right not everyone does A levels. It was actually pretty tricky designing the questionnaire for such a broad group of people, but now I realise I should have added further options.

Would you guys mind if I use your comments on here in my evaluation, i.e. to talk about problems with questionnaire design? They will all be anonymous of course. Feel free to say no.

Thanks again xx :)

Absolutely use whatever comments of mine you feel appropriate.

I have one DS syudying geography at an RG uni who did A level too.

I have one DS taking his gcses at the moment including geography as a non-compulsory option and will take geography A level

So i guess I may be a good target
