DD's going into yr6 in September, so we're having to think about this. Does anyone here have any experience of either?

I have no personal experience but from what I heard hurlington at least used to be in special measures/ failing and basically changed name in order to stay open. A class friend from DDs class only out 2 choices on her list and got neither so got a space in the only school in h&f with places which was hurlington. We did go to open day for Fulham cross girls and really liked it but due to they not having a 6 form put it lower on a list then we otherwise would have done.

I teach at a fairly local primary school (just over the border in KandC. I know several of our girls who have done well at Fulham Cross and then moved to Lady Margaret or William Morris for 6th form. Our children have only ended up at Hurlingham if they have not got into any of their choices and been forcibly allocated a place. Even those managed to get a place elsewhere by September.

Well, Hurlingham were forced into academisation. That's why the change of name happened.

Thanks both. DD really wants Hurlingham as first choice, she's not that bothered about second choice, Fulham Cross looked good. I've booked a tour.

Fulham Cross, without question. Dd got a place for September - first choice. It's catchment area is quite small though. I think we were quite lucky to get it as they don't usually go too far North of the Borough. I don't know anyone that applied for Hurlingham or even considered it. Why is your dd so keen?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 03/06/2018 14:55

She thought Fulham Cross was too far. Hurlingham's 8 minutes walk through the park, Fulham Cross is 15 minutes on the bus. I've just explained that to her for the umpteenth time, and she now agrees with everyone else.

My only gripe, a small one, is what's with the pink? We're a girls' school, we must have pink in the uniform? Hmm

I think they are both good. The comments here describe Hurlingham a few years ago. It has apparently gotten much better in recent years. But out of the two, I would still choose Fulham Cross (mainly judging by the kids of the respective schools and how they behave around the neighbourhood). The uniform is black by the way with only a tiny bit of pink. They are out and about in the local parks doing sports quite often, so it does not seem too "girly". By the way, based on where you seem to live, you can also apply to Lady Margaret's for an open place, the waiting list does move, you may get lucky, I know people who did.

Yes we get a lot of Hurlingham kids waiting at the bus stop near our house, and I've had good reports from parents with older DC there. I think I've kind of fallen in love with Fulham Cross. DD will definitely want Hurlingham as a second choice. I was sent to a secondary school I didn't want to go to, and scraped by with 2 O levels, because I was unhappy. We could always put Lady Margaret's as third! 😂

I'm very pleased to have received an email from Fulham Cross inviting us to their next tour. 😆
