Hello - possibly a long shot, but does anyone (parent or ex pupil) have any experience of this house and the current housemaster?

Thanks :)

Waiting with baited breath for any response to your question. DS possibly going into this house in 2019, is it the right choice?!?

I sneaked into Saunderites and snogged a boy in 1987 😀

Only interviewed with the housemaster as part of the "choose 3" list. There was zero fit there for us, but I have met some of the boys who ended up there and their parents and they like the house and fit. It really is individual. Some wouldn't be caught dead in some houses while others love it there so make certain to go and participate in the interviews as it makes a world of difference!

Can I ask what house you did choose. Also, why was it zero fit. Do you mean zero fit with the housemaster?

Hello, Yes we had zero fit with the housemaster and he felt the same - it was very clear but that was a good thing. There is no way DS would have fit with him but DS loves Daviesites. However, as I mentioned, we know others at Saunderites who like it there. Get to know a few people at Charterhouse and ask about house reputations and then pick your 3 or 4 to interview based on that and anticipated fit then make final selections. There is the soft boys house, the sports house, the all rounders, the scholars, etc. Not having gone private myself I didn't realize A) just how different each could be B0 Just how important it is to pick the right one. We feel very lucky DS loves his house and mates but also makes friends in other houses too.

Our DS starts this September so we've already chosen. We were late so only had a choice of 2.

Saunderites Housemaster is a woman (and has been for 5 years) so I think you must be mistakenly talking about a different house?

Apologies, must be. Thought it was Saunderites but just checked and it was Gownboys.

No worries. Sounds like we wouldnt have chosen Gownboys either anyway :) Hope your DS is excited. Ours is nervous/excited!

We went through it a couple of years ago which is why memory is spotty. DS LOVES it at Charterhouse and I'm sure yours will too. I've only heard of one house most dislike and it isn't yours so no worries. First 3 weeks were hell as ours had never boarded before. House spent extra care taking care of him and told us to not cave by coming to get him and it would get better. Now he loves both homes (ours and Daviesites). He feels lucky to be part of such a wonderful school. Enjoy and make sure you have the name tapes ready!

Just as an aside, I was wrong about the Housemaster we didn't get on with but I do know people for certain at Saunderites and they are very happy there!

That is a relief. Great to chat to a parent with a DS there. I hope Saunderites doesnt have a bad reputation as we've chosen now. It is one of the school based ones (rather than over by the sports field). Ours gained a Bob Noble scholarship (sports) and we heard Saunderiites is ok sport-wise. We've also heard the first term is really tough but he will come home very Saturday night so hopefully that will help (as long as we dont apply our own pressure!!).

Don’t mean to hijack your thread but my DD has chosen Fletcherites for her Lower Sixth next term. Have you heard anything about this house? Any advice on house choices for girls would be much appreciated. So happy to find this thread!

Hi, welcome to Charterhouse - a truly wonderful place where Beaks assign Banco during Hash! (you will very quickly learn the lingo and they provide a handy guide!). I didn't want to ignore you but don't have any specific knowledge about Fletcherites other than its nice and DS says the people there are too - and that its very handy as its closest to the pizza drop spot! Perhaps someone else will be able to offer something more.

Ah, pondhopper, thank you. Appreciate you writing back and find the information about being closest to the pizza drop site to be incredibly important intel.
