Permission for after school clubs

Do you still need to give permission for after school clubs?

Do schools still inform you of after school clubs or just the student??

My son is in year 8 and is currently at a cricket match. He told me it was at his school but it's at another school in our city. He said he finishes at 5:45 but his dad has called his school and they said it's 6:30.

I haven't had any communication/information from his school about cricket - is this normal for secondary schools?? Shouldn't they inform the parent of an away match and seek permission?

He also had an after school detention tonight so I was expecting him home by 5 at the latest. He's either not gone to it or the teacher has changed the day.

We will be having words when he gets home believe me!!

For sports fixtures mine has fixtures in the secure login of the website but it's up to us to check, or our DCs to check the noticeboard, there's no notification.

My dd has a 'passport' for away games. She fills in the details and I sign to say she can go. If she forgets, I can send her a text and that will do.

There is nothing for after school stuff on site. It's up to the child to tell you.

DS2's school lists most matches in advance in its newsletter, so were he suddenly to find himself in the D team for cricket or something, I would probably have had prior notice of where he would be when.

Surely if your DS is on a school team, you would expect roughly half the matches to be played away? If the fixture was in the same general locality, I don't think even our primary school would have asked specific permission to take the team there I(it had a 'local off-site' policy). It would only be an issue if they were expecting to be picked up and they (the DC) had omitted to mention from where.

As for after school clubs, no, certainly wouldn't expect the school to ask our permission for one of our DC to join one.

For school teams we don't give separate permission for them to go to away matches. The matches are listed on the school website though and show approximate return times at school for collections.

There's nothing on the website for parents to login. The notices section of find my homework is blank.

He has only been to cricket twice after school, no mention of him being in the team before today. He just said he was playing in a match after school at his school and could we go and watch?

I was just curious if this was the normal thing? Trusting the child to pass on information? Obviously my son is useless at it!

DD's school send a letter home with the match details on it. Parents only contact the school if they don't want their child to go.

I suppose it cuts down on having to chase up permission slips every single time, but it's probably not all that helpful if your child doesn't pass on letters. (My DS was a nightmare for that).

The only time we've ever been told (by the school) about after school clubs was the time a concert rehearsal was extended from 3-5pm to 3-7pm. At 4pm. Quite often my DC will text me when school finishes "decided to go to x club"
