How can I help my DD- yr8

My 13 year old DD is in year 8 and since starting secondary school has not really been happy. It really comes down to one really tricky friend who treats her very badly. This girl is much more outgoing than my DD but also I think quite insecure and takes it out on my DD, one day nice the next excluding her and talking to others about her. My DD thinks that she owns access to the friendship group and I think feels quite dependent on her but at same time is fed up with being treated really badly.
How can I help her? She at times says she wants to move school but I’m reluctant to do that as otherwise we like the school and I feel that moving is not the answer. But when my daughter is in tears again because of this girl I wonder if I am right...
What can I do to help her?’

How big is the school? The one I work in splits the year into an A half and B half. With issues like these we sometimes swap kids to the other half so they no longer share any lessons with certain people.

It’s 120 intake and they don’t split it like some.
She is in a Tutor group with this girl and I don’t think swap them round next year..

Could you ask her head of year to consider moving her into a different form?

Better67 · 11/05/2018 23:02

Yes I have thought of that. DD worried about that as apparently only kids who really struggling move and she wants to get closer to one other girl in her form and worried about moving. But I think might be good thing..

If she’s talking about moving schools, then I would definitely try moving tutor groups first.
