Secondary Schools Appeals

Hi
I am appealing as my daughter ddint get into any of her preferred choices re secondary school.
One of them is a school that takes some children based on a test - it is a comprehensive, not a grammar.
She didnt do as well in the test as she prob could have done... nerves/anxiety, had a cold and couldnt hear verbal questions properly, didnt do as well as peers in her current school who she usually does as well as/better than in school....
would this be valid to use as - part of - reason for appeal?
thanks

What kind of test? If it's not a grammar then presumably it was an aptitude test or a fair banding one?

Did you raise it at the time?

Realistically you can say anything that you think helps towards the argument that the prejudice to her of not attending is greater than the prejudice to the school of taking another pupil, but you would need to show the reasons she needs this school, not just that she underperformed in whatever test it is. The panel could agree, say, that it seems she underperformed, but that doesn't show prejudice.

That won't help I don't believe. You have to prove why this is the only school that can meet her needs (for example she is interested in languages and this offers mandarins, Spanish and German for example.

I would look at elevenplusexams.co.uk which gives lots of advice on selective school appeals.

Often said but not true. You need to show that your daughter will be prejudiced (i.e. disadvantaged) if she is not admitted to this school. You don't have to show that it is the only school that can meet her needs, just that this school will be much better able to meet her needs than the allocated school. Other schools shouldn't enter into the discussion.
