My son has an assessment at Eton next month and I was wondering whether anyone knows anything about the computerized test and the group activity. Thank you

The computerised test is similar to the ISEB pre-test. It is adaptive so will get harder when your DS successfully answers a question. Boys should feel challenged by it.

The Eton assessment process has been revised this year and now involves an interview with a member of house staff, as opposed to whoever happens to be free on the day. Your DS will need to prove to them that he's more than just a brain box and can contribute to Eton life outside of the classroom! I'm not sure a group activity is always part of the process. If it is, it was subtly done as my DS didn't mention anything!

This reply isn't Eton specific, but watching my DC go through interviews at a variety of selective boarding schools my advice would be to get your DS to put together a file of stuff he's done that's not academic. It can be anything sport, drama, music, chess, computing (not highest score on COD), art, etc etc etc. Chat through it with him, or get a family friend to do so so he gets used to talking about himself. Then take a few bits (or the whole file) with him as conversation openers so he doesn't forget everything he's done and achieved which is easy to do under pressure. If he's done something amazing make sure that's included, but also make sure the off beat goes in too. They are looking for children who excel in all sorts of areas and will mark the most of all the school has to offer. Hope this helps.

That's über organised of you SpikeStoker. My lad did it in his typical seat of the pants way.... with zero preparation.

I feel certain though that his exemplary COD and FIFA 18 high scores will secure him a place. Watch this space....

Haha, more than one child, three school interviews each. By the end we'd worked out how best to do it. Just wish I'd realised at the beginning. I am very serious about getting your DS used to blowing his own trumpet, although perhaps not about the FIFA and COD, he'll just be one in a crowd there 🤔

Hi Kellydent, how did the exam go at Eton, my son will be taking the ISEB pre test in October. Could you please share your experience in preparing for the Pretest, what kind of questions asked in pretest. Did your son go to one of London prep school. Any advice will be gratefully received.

Hi Rose, we live in the US at the moment and my son studied maths, English and reasoning through the keystones website. He passed the tests and will have his interview next month. Will let you know how it goes.
