Late applications to independent schools

My DS didn't get into any of the schools listed on his preference form. We are reasonably well placed on the waiting list for one and we are also thinking about submitting an appeal.

My older DC went to state schools and I hadn't considered independent schooling for DS but there are a couple locally that we are interested in. Have we left it too late? I've telephoned one and left a message but I haven't heard back from them.

We were in the same situation last year and applied to several indi schools in March/April. We were very lucky that some had saved places for this very reason, most we contacted had a handful of places left. Lots had allocated all their bursary pot but thankfully the school she preferred had some bursary available still and she was also awarded a scholarship. By June we were eventually allocated a place in our first choice but decided to stick with the independent school which has been a great decision for my DC

That is reassuring thank you Rudi. I guess I'll have to keep persevering and ring until I get a reply.

I hadn't even thought about the possibility of a bursary or a scholarship - that would be a bonus.

Where in the country are you OP?

We are in north Northamptonshire. Any information about Wellingborough School or Pitsford School would be appreciated.

I don't have first hand experience but a friend looked at pitsford and liked it but thought it wasn't great for the more able. I know people that tutor kids from wellingborough and aren't that impressed with the standard of teaching higher up the school. Both prob better than quite a few of the state secondaries in the area though!
