Has anybody found a way to get round this? Caught dd using a calculator on questions that were supposed to be non calculator amongst calculator questions. How on earth do you get round this?Confused

I think you need to point out that in exams this won’t be an option so (as my old headmistress used to say) ‘you are only cheating yourself’

Have done but don't trust her.

Let her learn the hard way. She'll either get away with it or she'll flunk the next non calculator maths test she has depending on how good she is at mental arithmetic (even using a calculator she's still learning the processes and calculations).
The consequences are not dire or something she needs to be protected from.
You've caught her, you've warned her, step back and allow her to find out if ignoring you over this is a mistake.
Its not a battle worth having.

Don't fight it.

She should use the calculator to check her work anyway.

Sometimes working backwards, or quickly comparing a few possible methods aids understanding.

As long as the long form gets down on paper, with working shown, it's fine.

She's got some SENs and is quite good at maths but it doesn't translate in tests. Some ridiculous mistakes, workings out a dog's dinner( messy). Harder stuff often fine,it's the easier stuff she makes the silly mistakes in. Really important she gets used to calculating in her head at speed without a calculator and does her workings neatly.

Wondering about printing off the online questions but expensive in ink and laborious.
