Boarding Schools where you can ski

AVY3 · 05/03/2018 12:31

Does anyone know of any UK boarding schools where skiing is part of the curriculum? Any in Scotland? I have found a few in Switzerland but they are incredibly expensive. My daughter absolutely loves skiing and would love to ski every day if she could. This would be for 13+

Martin and Graham Bell went to school in Austria. Don't know where.

Loretto School Girls is worth looking at ...

As there is no reliable snow here in the uk, it’s a bit of a tall order. However schools run ski teams such as Heathfield at Ascot so you could see if that’s a possibility.

A girl at DDs school (a few years ago now) went to the British Ski training camp for months. I think it was in France. I know no more than that. Also the snow domes run teams and train young people. MK did a lot of this. I would look at the Ski Governing body in the uk and see what they offer. What did Chemmy Alcott do?

Some in Canada too... Most private Canadian schools, even those in big cities like Toronto, have ski teams. Schools like traditional skiing areas like Bishop's College School in Sherbrooke will have strong programs. They will have plenty of snow to ski on Dec. -> March

Le Rosey www.rosey.ch
American school in Leysin www.las.ch
Both Switzerland
I think Chemmy Alcott went to Surbiton High

Lots of skiing at Surbiton High- although obviously not as much as in Switzerland. I saw that Cheltenham Ladies were also competing in the schools championships last month.

BubblesBuddy · 05/03/2018 15:53

Millfield and Reeds mention skiing. The British Ski Academy does the winter ski programmes in the Arosa Valley I think.

Wycombe Abbey win a lot in the schools’ competitions!

If you look through the schools here you might find something

Roseredvelvet · 05/03/2018 23:21

Chemmy Alcott did go to Surbiton High. They run a sporting excellence program & offer sports scholarships. It is a day school though.

RunRivers · 05/03/2018 23:28

Strathallan? Close to the scottish ski slopes I think.

PoohBearsHole · 05/03/2018 23:33

There are lots of school holiday programmes throughout the year that focus on skiing.

Ski associations would have the details :)

Expensive to do though :(

MollyHuaCha · 05/03/2018 23:36

British international boarding school in Switzerland maybe?

Heathdee · 06/03/2018 09:53

Strathallan school offers great flexibility for talented skiers. Glenhee ski resort is less than 2 hour shift away and many pupils are allowed to train abroad. 2 pupils from there recently competed for Scotland at the Schools world skiiing championship in France. You should definitely have a word with them and see what they can offer.

nocampinghere · 06/03/2018 10:51

does she love it or is she really really talented?

schools like surbiton (Chemmy Alcott old girl) do a lot of skiing IF you make the team...
