How do we know the rank number and did they offer places from the waitlist in previous years?

To be honest, the best thing is probably to call St Olaves directly. DS (currently y9 at st O) got 2nd choice grammar on allocation day. We called St Olave's admissions and back then they did not tell you your ranking - but we had an offer from St Olave's about 4 weeks later, and DS decided to take it as commute much easier. From reading current threads, it sounds like these days they do tell you where you are on the waiting list, which I hope as true, as then expectations are so much easier to manage.
