Mmzz Don't you dare stray from this one - your country needs you!

How many DC are going to 6th forms requiring suits/proper business dress, how many continue in uniform & who has anything goes? It looks as though Oratory is the former, we're the latter. Wellies & thermals required here today.

All black tracksuit/joggers/t shirt for dd at her first choice.

Stickerrocks · 18/03/2018 07:42

Welcome to the snowy south.

Oh to be slender enough for dancer's kit!

Oratory1 · 18/03/2018 07:53

Continuing uniform for us which makes life easy. The suit reference was dj for formal dinners (didn’t buy one for year 11 prom/dinner as still growing fast). And we have snow in our bit of the south too - actually more than expected and still coming down.

Stickerrocks · 18/03/2018 07:59

The next county insists on smart business dress. You see them looking as though they've been plonked into a suit jacket! It seems to add unnecessary expense, especially as the 6th formers tend to stay in the same school and probably still fit in their uniform.

AlexanderHamilton · 18/03/2018 08:03

It does seem a bit mad.

Ds goes to a different school & their 6th formers have to wear a shirt & tie (similar to the school tie but different enough) but they are allowed to wear any style of skirt or trousers (most go for black) instead of school regulation styles. No blazer for them.

KingscoteStaff · 18/03/2018 08:14

Suit and tie here. DS only started in Year 9 and is still wearing the same blazer, so I would have had to buy new kit anyway. He plans to do a trawl along the charity shops to find a couple of suits that fit.

TheSecondOfHerName · 18/03/2018 08:35

All of DS2's choices for post-16 education require a suit and tie. Let's hope we can find suit trousers for a 24 inch waist.

Stickerrocks · 18/03/2018 08:37

DD'S college of choice will look like the Kensington-by-sea tribe have moved back from Cornwall after the summer. She doesn't have long swishy blond hair, but can blend in with their non-uniform uniform!

OP posts:
Sostenueto · 18/03/2018 08:55

6th form first choice is office wear but not necessarily suits. 2nd choice is same and 3 rd choice is smart casual.

Sostenueto · 18/03/2018 08:56

Mmzz don't you dare leave! I will come and haunt you if you do!

BlueBelle123 · 18/03/2018 09:12

DS's one and only choice is casual.......the trouble with that is he is going to need a whole load of new clothes for two reasons:

  1. He is suddenly concerned by how he looks......why kind off, never thought that would happen.
  2. He hardly has any clothes as he is either in school uniform or sports gear.

We have also woken up to lots of snow and DS is up early and busy arranging group met up for sledgingHmm

Sos hope your feeling better today.......why do people have to be soo abusive when they can see the trouble you were in, I find that behaviour very depressingSad

Oddsocks15 · 18/03/2018 09:13

mmzz don’t leave us, we need you! Wine Cake Brew Flowers Bear Gin Star Biscuit

Does anyone know when the decision to sit higher or foundation tier will be made for our DC? According to my DD she doesn’t know which tier she is sitting for French or Science. Is that right? Surely decision would have been made by now?

DoNotBringLulu · 18/03/2018 09:19

mmzz You have given us some really helpful advice, don't leave!!

I share Sticker's snow here in the beautiful South, I've heard round here the motorways and main roads are clear, which is just as well. My dd has a gymnastics competition just up the road about 20 miles away

I believe ds's 6th form is casual dress - the attitude is that it's halfway from school to university.

I hope the snow doesn't cause problems today and you can all get out and about.

DoNotBringLulu · 18/03/2018 09:28

Oddsocks Ds said he may do foundation for Science, but he has a 5 in his mock for Biology so not sure now.

Sos I just read about your accident - sorry to hear about it, how stressful....on Christmas Eve I had an unpleasant experience when I slightly misjudged reversing out of a car parking space and just touched the massive 4x4 next to me. A man got out and started swearing and shouting at me, telling me I shouldn't be on the road, taking pictures etc. I told him to stop swearing at me, told him he's a bully, and there was no damage. Gave him my details...never heard anything. People can over react and forget to be human at times like this. Glad you are OK.

Have a good Sunday all x

mmzz · 18/03/2018 10:09

I'm not leaving this thread. I'm here for as long as we stay together, up to the day that we are posting that we've just dropped them off at halls for their first term at university, if we last that long.

Sorry, I'm obviously not expressing myself well. I just meant that I get a bit fed up with the way people pick on minor details and who can't respect other people's views. eg on the other thread, one mother described being concerned about her DD who happened to be the youngest in her year. The only reply she got, wasn't about her concerns but just a challenge about no one being younger.

Anyway, forgetting all that - we (DH, me and the two boys) just had a huge snowball fight in the garden! The boys got out of bed early just so they could rub snow down my neck and pummel their dad with snowballs! DS2 reminded me that he's not in child's body anymore (he's only just turned 14 but almost 6ft) when he rugby tackled me to the ground and I couldn't stop him!

AlexanderHamilton · 18/03/2018 10:19

The good news is that Dd doesn’t need glasses although she does have a difference between the sight in each eye. The headaches may be stress related & ive asked her to think about sunlight etc.

And she & dh have arrived in London safely for their workshop.

Oddsocks15 · 18/03/2018 10:49

mmzz Grin Grin glad to hear you are staying Grin Grin

Thanks lulu maybe teachers really haven’t decided yet then Hmm

Stickerrocks · 18/03/2018 10:52

Don't The roads are completely clear between the two of us. Somehow I think the school will all be open tomorrow as well! Smile

I think this document implies that the final date for registration for exams is 21/2/18

LooseAtTheSeams · 18/03/2018 12:04

I know what you mean about other threads mmzz - I'm glad we're all on this one!
Oh my goodness it's cold here - I've just done 2 hours' tuition very locally but my toes are frozen. Snow looks pretty but I'd rather stay in the warm!
For suits, DS would need one if he stays at current school - I have heard Primark recommended! The other sixth form he likes doesn't care, although they possibly draw the line at hoodies.

mmzz · 18/03/2018 12:13

Business dress at the current school's sixth form, and, judging by the photos on their Twitter feed, it's hoodies, jeans and trainers all the way at the selective school.
Business wear is not so bad for the boys (2 suits, 5 shirts and a few ties), but I pity the girls. I can't imagine much of it being worn at university.

BlueBelle123 · 18/03/2018 12:14

I agree it would be lovely if we kept this thread going until they embarked on their chosen paths......Uni, apprentership, gap year, job or something else.......that's probably because I am nosey and would love to know what all your DC end up doing!!!

KingscoteStaff · 18/03/2018 12:25

Thesecond - your DS needs a 6th form suit with a 24 inch waist - mine needs one with 31 inch waist and space for rugby-playing thighs!
