Advice please - travel to Colfes from Greenwich

Hi
DD has an offer from Colfes for y7 which we are probably going to accept, but the only thing holding us back is how to get there! We are near Maze Hill and it looks like it can take almost an hour door to door on public transport. Is that right?
Grateful for advice from anyone local with kids there on how they do it.

You will need to driver her

Thanks - is that what you do with secondary age kids?
It’s not an option for us due to work so we need to find the best way in public transport, and how long it takes (tfl and google maps differ by 50% in the time it takes!)

Lucas... probably bus 89 to Lewisham then bus 261 and get off at Lee Station. Short walk up Upwood Road to Colfes

lucasnorth · 15/02/2018 21:26

Thanks. How long would you need to allow for that?

Can't she walk up to the top of Greenwich park and then she can pick up the 202 to Lee station. It's about a 5-10 minute walk from there to colfe's via upwood road (depending which side of the school sure needs to be on).

Thanks - that is the route we are looking at. Just trying to work out how long it takes in practice as websites differ wildly! She will be on the senior site

I'd definitely consider that route rather than taking two buses at rush hour (although of course she'll have to walk up the hill first). I would have thought that it'd be about 40 minutes or so depending on the traffic and how far up the hill you are. I think the senior site is the furthest from upwood road (still not particularly far though) but my knowledge of the school is only gained by walking through it to take my 5yr old dd to swimming lessons at the leisure centre there.

Do you have any other offers as well? IMO, easy travel is a key however if you love Colfe's and the commute is do-able then definitely go for it! Maybe do a trial run before accepting?

NoSquirrels · 16/02/2018 11:35

It’s not massively far in reality - you need to do a trial run!

My daughter is in year 8 at Colfe's and we live in the Maze Hill area. There is a large contingent of Colfe's children who walk up to the top of the Park and get the 202 to Lee Station. Takes about 40/45 minutes , I would say. She aims to get a bus about 7.30 am, though I think that means she is on the early side at school.

Maybe there is a school bus system?
